Replying to [Admin]: Hello to everybody; in my prespective Email marketing is a form of direct marketing which uses electronic mail as a means of communicating commercial or fundraising messages to an audience. In its broadest sense, every email sent to a potential or current customer could be considered email marketing. However, the term is usually used to refer to:
Sending emails with the purpose of enhancing the relationship of a merchant with its current or old customers and to encourage customer loyalty and repeat business.
Sending emails with the purpose of acquiring new customers or convincing old customers to buy something immediately.
Adding advertisements in emails sent by other companies to their customers.
Emails that are being sent on the Internet (Email did and does exist outside the Internet, Network Email, FIDO etc.)
Advantages
Email marketing (on the Internet) is popular with companies because:
The advantage of a mailing list is clearly the ability to distribute information to a wide range of specific, potential customers at a relatively low cost.
Compared to other media investments such as direct mail or printed newsletters, it is less expensive.
An exact Return on investment can be tracked ("track to basket") and has proven to be high when done properly. Email marketing is often reported as second only to search marketing as the most effective online marketing tactic.
It is instant, as opposed to a mailed advertisement, an email arrives in a few seconds or minutes.
It lets the advertiser "push" the message to its audience, as opposed to a website that waits for customers to come in.
It is easy to track. An advertiser can track users via web bugs, bounce messages, un-subscribes, read-receipts, click-throughs, etc. These can be used to measure open rates, positive or negative responses, correlate sales with marketing.
Advertisers can generate repeat business affordably and automatically
Advertisers can reach substantial numbers of email subscribers who have opted in (consented) to receive email communications on subjects of interest to them
Over half of Internet users check or send email on a typical day.
Specific types of interaction with messages can trigger other messages to be automatically delivered.
Specific types of interaction with messages can trigger other events such as updating the profile of the recipient to indicate a specific interest category.
Green - email marketing is paper-free.
Disadvantages
Many companies use email marketing to communicate with existing customers, but many other companies send unsolicited bulk email, also known as spam.
Illicit email marketing antedates legitimate email marketing, since on the early Internet it was not permitted to use the medium for commercial purposes. As a result, marketers attempting to establish themselves as legitimate businesses in email marketing have had an uphill battle, hampered also by criminal spam operations billing themselves as legitimate.

Replying to [Admin]:E-mail marketing is a two-edged sword.
On one edge, it is being blocked by many mailbox with anti-spam filter, and there are too many emails in circulation demanding the attention of the addressees. People are weary of emails offering free gifts, or scam mails announcing the winner of a lottery, or freebies, which turned out to be fakes.
Data taken from filled lucky draw coupons, or mined from Bulletin boards or forum boards are sold to the email marketing people for a fee. So much that it has lost its impact on the audience and almost all of them are deleted without being read. E-marketing people know the effectiveness of unsolicited email mass mailing is almost zero, and in fact the current OPT-IN and OPT-OUT method has proven to produce more results.
On the other edge, it is working 24/7 at low cost, and far reaching to every corner of the Earth. It is also convenient, can be sent anywhere, from laptops for people on the move, and from the home PC.
In marketing, we have a term called Cost per Thousand (CPM), and email posting is at the very low end of the CPM scale. However, all is not lost, if the spam emails arouse the interest by first impression. The following points are essential to the effectiveness of these emails:
1. The addressee should be named, not just a general reference. Dear Mr. HongShan ONG, not just Dear all, or Dear customer.
2. The message should be well planned and organised as to be short and sweet and to the point. Proper spelling and grammar should be used to enhance its credibility. Be sensitive to the text only email box, do not use graphics if there is not pertinent to the point.
3. The content should be readable by the people of the category. Do not use idioms, or technical words and do not use acronyms or metaphors without explanations.
4. Use catch phrase, or slogans which is catchy and arouse curiosity of the reader. Sell benefits to the reader and prospects.
5. Refrain from using Active-X elements in your emails, and graphic animations and sound embedded elements. If you need to do this, give the browser an option to choose if s/he wish to listen to the sound or watch the video, and to skip if s/he do not wish to.
6. Do not use cookies in the emails, as these will be blocked by the No-cookie option in the email browser.
7. Try to use multi-language servers, with translators available on-line. This way you can reach out to people of all languages, but focus mainly on the 5 most Internationally used email languages: English, Chinese, German, Spanish and Hindi.
8. Be sensitive to culture barriers, geographical, and level of understanding. Use simple street language and refrain from using high bombastic words.
9. If needed, use charts, graphs, tables bullets and indents to make your points presentable and reader-friendly. Use bold, italics and colour to emphasis a point.
10. Target your audience, write the emails to your existing clients to build relationship, to enforce Customer Relation Management (CRM). Use links from your emails to your website, or other sites to support your points.

Replying to [Admin]: It certainly helps to stay in touch with current customers. You can keep them updated about their orders, send them samples, pictures, other relevant information etc. But in finding new customers, email is may be a tool that is mostly used and abused. You may never find a new customer by email, because most of the ligitimate customers would already have spam filters installed on their systems and those systems would mark your email as spam and it would be deleted. You may get a digital certificate that way you can sign your emails and this digital sign helps you to reach the customers because spam filters do not delete emails digitally signed. Get Trustpass membership, get other verifications and certifications so that any potential customer who you contact would be able to trust you and pass on his or her business to you, knowing that you must be reliable, for you have all these certificates and verifications. In my humble opinion do contact new customers through email but first make sure that your first impression is impresive. Formal style and all the fancy stuff. A good web site to support your contact with customer. Good Luck.
