Post 1 of 8
Hi friends!  Suppose you are developing a garment with your own label with tag and aBrand.. it is very cute, beautiful and attractive. Whether your buyer will approve and buy it? whether the consumers will buy it?  or all will go for the International already Branded Items/? Other wise how to establish your own Brand with your label and tag?

Replying to [curdrice]:If you have a goal to be and stay in business, then by all means establish your own identity and reputation by branding.

Risk/reward. What is the risk? And then put a value to the reward.

If you believe in yourself and your product, you owe it to yourself to stand up and be counted and recognized.

Go for it. You only live once.

Hello to you Curdrice [em2]

I am not a clothes designer, but if i was very good at this, i would make some quality designs, and than create my design portfolio this is very important, than i can send my designs to the best selling stores to try get them to order from me.

I can enter shows, fashion designs, and make my own web site to show all my new deisgns.

I can get inerest from local and international news papers and designer mags.

I understand i have said many things above, but if you want you own brand than you must have the reputation to back the brand/logo up [em19]

If i have won the national awards for best designer than i would have this reputation and i can make this work for me when i create my new brand name.

Replying to [curdrice]:Simply advertising alone will not create a strong brand.

What you must do is step back and narrow down your target audience. Find a niche and then see what competitors you are up against. You must cater to that target market if you are to be successful. This will determine your branding amoungst other things such as:
Designs
Logo
Distribution method
Pricing
Promotion and advertising

If you simple go out and start advertising to the general public you will be up for a lot of money and also portray a confusing brand message.

Think about it and next time you watch TV try to determin which target group the commercials are targeting. This is the first step to building a successful brand image.

I recommend selling via an online store to begin with as you can easily portray your branding message using graphics and photos. This is more difficult if you are selling in a retail store or markets.

Good Luck!

Replying to [curdrice]: Rember that branding is more than the tag you put on your garments. It is how you position your item - that is price them in relation to others in the market. How you package your item and the quality of the product in comparison with others.

If you position your item towards the high end of the market, expect greater scrutiny. If your tags are cute, but are made of inferior materials, that could loose you the sale. These days tags are made of all kinds of plastics and some are meant to be kept. (At least that is how some people wear them). More refined items carry a silky label with embroidered details.

Tagless wear seems to be the newest thing. I like it, no tags to cut off and nothing to itch the back of your neck [em3].

Where you sell, the type of stores you approach to carry your product. The type of display you create for your product etc... are all part of the Branding.

As was said by another member, patience and advertising budget needed.

For me this is a definate part of marketing strategy and how you go about it must be thought through. Some research may need to be done to deterime your niche for this product so that you can Brand it in such a way to reach that audience.

All the best.

Replying to [curdrice]:Let me answer you this way, I have purchased millions of dollars in garments for various companies. When dealing with overseas vendors in developing countries (Pakistan, India, China), NO ONE will pay a premium for a name YOU sew into the collar.

International brands like Hugo Boss, Addidas, Nike..... have spent MILLIONS of $$$$ on brand development and brand marketing to build brand value. You will not be able to achieve this as 1 factory in a developing country. The investment takes tens of millions of $$$ or more.

If you want to get a little bit more money for your product or show you have some expertise by carrying "a line" of products with your own private label, then this is possible. Most factories fail when attempting this. Most US distributors fail when trying this.

Fashion is very fickle, demand for your product is consumer driven. If you can produce a product that people will want to buy and your customers learn they can sell it, then you have an advantage. Just do not charge so much that your customer switches to use another factory.
