How do buyers define "Good Quality"?
Post 1 of 5
We always receive inquiries for "good quality". However, most of the of "good quality" do not really mean the same. We experience so many cases like that. In the beginning, buyer notices that they are seeking for "good quality". After submitting quotation, buyer found that price is expensive than what they are puchasing. We explain that quality should be different but buyer always said that they are buying "good quality". To show our quality, we always submit sample. When buyer receives sample, they acknowledge that our quality is better but they are comfortable with their present "good quality(what buyer calls)" & price; they cannot afford to buy our "good quality".

I just want to ask, how does a buyer define "Good Quality"? Does buyer know what good quality is?

Hi! Eddie, I think you may place your role at customer shoes. Certainly they know well their "quality" because they are dealing in their markets. And sure you know very well about your "quality" which is good for you means it is really good.
But customers veiw their"good quality" according to their existing experience and products' response from the market. I believe they always ask some good quality which could mean our commercial quality as long as these prodcuts are selling good, the customers do not care about really the products are very good in quality.
Indeed we all know good quality paid for also good price. Everyone wants very good quality but very low prices. Is it possible?
Therefore, you just find out what exactly your customers need and ask the price ranges of which you may smell some part of their so called "good quality"what does it mean..
Well hope that helps. Good Luck!

Replying to [Leosun]: I fully understand what buyer thinking. However, why can't they tell the turth & point out that which market (low end, mid end or high end) they are in? If customer can notice us in advance, we can simly point him to right direction.

It's very much depending how you ask and communicate with your clients. And there are different reasons to explain.
1) your customers do not tell you the truth and would like to know how far you can go like quality, prices and payment terms..
2) clients sometimes could also really do not know well especially they are new to the business.
3) no intention to buy , but scan and compare
4) get samples and do research, but no success, so....
5) a wrong approaching to their market, thus the clients know something not correct or not update
6) your products are not acceptable for customers' markets
However, you may do something
1) when you quote, you better to tell what quality and price range
you give according to your understanding.
2) tell you clients something you know about their markets, if you know
3) designs of your products are vital. If you copy from your competitors and fight for the prices, there is only one result, you kill yourself and your clients. Therefore, your own creations, designs will help your cleints to win the market provided you must know well the market. Sometimes, customers need our guides through our production strength.
All and all, there could have various reasons to be further discussed
but how to understand your clients is a kind of personal experiences and feeling as well.
Hope can help!
