SPAM mails.
If more than one email address is detected by the inbox, the message will be treated as spam, blocked and transferred to a location for spam mails.
Graphic embedded.
More and more emails have graphics, pictures and even movies in the message. This will be blocked off by text only inbox filter.
Pop-ups
Inbox has pop ups filters which do not allow these to be accepted.
Cookies in the mail
The option of no-cookies allowed, will block all
Addressee may have encountered viruses from unsolicited emails in the past. Virus invades the Address directory of the mailbox and churns out duplicates of their virus, sending them to the addresses found and using the victim's identity as the perpetrator.
HTML text emails, or RichText format, are more user-friendly. Do not use graphics or documents with proprietary software drivers such as MSWORD, or graphics. Use public domain graphics such as PDF Acrobat Reader.

You should also make phone calls to check if they received your emails.
Or you can do a phone call first, ask for their names and arouse their interest, then send the email, which will be more receptive.
Email spam is very low cost way of promotion, but also has the lowest hit rates and lowest returns. There is a phrase called "Opt-in" and "Opt-out". This means that the person opt to be in the receiver list of your email or the other way round. This has more results than simply sending emails to those who have no interest in your product at all.
Personally, I used emails to communicate with my customers. Normally they are interested in my product from our Website, and they would call, ask for the price, and delivery and the quality and features of the product. I would send them an email with ready prepared brochures of the product/s in PDF file, and give them a quotation. I got good success with this method of communication, previous to the Internet, about 10 years ago, we only use fax machine to send pictures of the product and they were only in black and white prints. Now with the emails, I can also embed some HOTSPOT links to our prepared Website or page to show them some important facts. We can also do animation, or store a demonstration of the product in Flash program and play it to the customer by email.
You have got to be creative and articulate with the use of the Internet, the HTML codes, the graphics and other script codes. That is the training of a E-Marketing person.
