I have a question of protocol.

I am having a housewares product produced off-shore. Should my U.S. distributor pay for the shipping from the factory to a U.S. port or is that something I should be responsible for?

Any input would be really helpful, thanks!

That depends on how you have entered into the logistics contract with the distributor of your product.  If you have not written these details into the contract, shipping would fall on you and would be a cost already attached to the per unit price of the products.

Nijdis, your buyer will pay for the shipment . You add the shipment charges to the price to your total value price. But if FOB price , your price is only the products .

Goodday.

i wonder how did you talk with your U.S. distributor .How did you quote price to your distributor.
If you didn't conclude ocean freight in the price, you can speak it to your distributor sincerely.I think he will understand it.

Replying to [Nijdis]: which every method you choose, either he pays and he controls it, or you pay and you control the time and price of delivery. KEEP IN MIND RATE OF EXCHANGE very important when doing cahslfow and financing.

Thank you everyone for your quick reply. You all have been really helpful to this 'buisness/production' newbie. Anything else you all can tell me would be really appreciated.
