There's a fair bit of paperwork for a Chinese party to import your furniture.

But, Chinese contract law does not require you to go to China to sign a contract. A contract with a Chinese party is perfectly legal if done by fax and/or email.

For this particular problem, talk with Jasmine "hellojasmine" a great little Chinese lady who you see around these forums.

She could easily phone your Chinese buyer and straighten things out.

The answer is NO. You don't need to come to China. China is no different from other countries in doing business.

As when you are dealing with buyers from other countries, do you due diligence and take cautious steps in this case.

Don't you feel that it is always the case that the buyer would like to come over and have a look of the supplier's facilities, and not the other way round? I'm not going to say that it is definitely a spam, but isn't it strange? Search the net and you will find numeroous similar spam cases. You may put the information of the so-called Chinese buyer here and see if there's anyone could help you to clarify on that.
