Hello,

I think my partner and I are researching some of the same areas that your are. We are based in the US but import from China for our business. We are now looking at the China and Hong Kong market to explore options for product/market niches. We have been focusing on baby items, men's skin care line, herbal/mineral cosmetics, and a few others.

Email me at: broncoamg@yahoo.com if you'd like to discuss. Maybe we can compare research, etc.

I've never used any Chinese own branded cosmetics. Being a female who is very interested in the whole beauty field, I've come to the conclusion that the Chinese cosmetics manufacturers still have to show the consumers a higher comitment to cosmetics quality.

Packaging also matters. Consumers tend to chose products that look great as well.

I'll give you an example about a brand that is currently being marketed
http://www.golden-rose.nl/
although its been in the market for a while[not less than two years], only early this year [2007] that I've seen it actually have a stand! when it was still being marketed as a door-to-door product, I tried it and honestly was surprised how good it was. yet consumers were hesitant to use it becasue the older packaging gave it a cheaper look, and the fact that people tend to look for well known brands first.

if any company wants to "be in" the cosmetics global market, they really have to work on their brand and marketing.

this was just my 2 cents. [em1]
