Dear Elaine,

looking at your original message again, one question came to my mind: how do you know that Chinese brand products are just as good as foreign brands manufactured in China?

At first sight one might think that this is obvious, but it isn't. What if for example the Chinese manufacturer feels like adding the chemical "XYZ" to a certain perfume is "overkill" and therefore doesn't do that in his own brand, being that in reality it does fulfill a very important role? That would make a whole lot of a difference, and the casual user won't know... at first! If as a consequence later there are some problems, it would be very hard to repair the damage.

So it's very important to have insider knowledge to make statements about quality. But maybe you do, and if this is the case, I'm all ears!

Hoping to hear from you,

Germex [em3]

 Dear germex,

I am not engaged in cosmetics and my statement here just from a customer's point of view,  because I love this industry,so I want to hear more voice from others at same time to learn more here.

Of course not all the chinese manufacturers are as good as foreign brands, and i know that some manufacturers here don't have good quality control system, but undoubtedly we have some good produced with good quality and natural materials that foreign customers don't know owing to some marketing problems, and it is the first  headache that  chinese mature manufacturer  have to slove.

Imported brands takes up 90% of chinese cosmetics market sale in 2006,that is huge number and korean cosmetics is the  hot point in recent years with the continual hot of korean soap opera here.Their products are low price with better packing and advertisement.

Chinese cosmetic  manufacturer have to face  those strong competitors and have a long long way to go.

Hope to hear more from u.

Replying to [qiqi]:Hello qiqi,
as a handmade soap supplier I have been approached from mainland China to supply floating soap, with essential oils and herbs etc, I am interested to read your post here regarding the price for OLAY = $15,
what are your local soap prices? It is good for me to know if I am to be trading with China, also do you think men and women will be interested in buying my products?
With regards to the original thread, my personal view on the Chinese cosmetics I have come into contact with is that teh packaging is more what lets it down, also sometimes to bright colours used either in the product or the wrapper!
I think softer tones with more natural, closer to earth feelings will sell more of these products, as typically most cosmetic products follow similar lines of production so are pretty much the same thing where ever they are made, the rest is attention to detail on the shop front as it were.
