One of my potential customers asked me to send samples to him,at first,he just said he interested in one of our products,i told him that we offer the samples free, but he should pay for the mailing, then he replied me with that he is not in the position to pay for it because they don't have the DHLaccount, and showed that he intereated in all our items, and asked me to send the samples to them as soon as possible.

What should i do ?

Hi,boy.
It's a good topic of your question, may be lots of people come across these situation when negotiate .
And i learn more from this topic ,I find so many good answers.
I ' m glad to know that your client are willing to pay the fee,I think You can get the payment althought he did't have a DHL account.
I suggest you send sample to him in your account ,and let him pay for it in TT,however ,you should scan the transport documents to him.

As a purchaser, I too have fund myself in a situation similar to this one. Many times a company may offer "free samples" of their products and send "chosen" items trying to relfect the "quality" of their products....yeah right! I agree with vshanker in regards to try to learn/ find ways to have the person sent money NOT VIA BANK TRANSFER because this is costly compared to the low amount he/she will be sending. I personally will not pay $50 usd for a bank transfer to receive samples (25 for my bank fee and another 25 for citibank to finish the transfer because in my country our banks dont send direct to chinese banks) but I might consider western union or money gram as long as I know the recipient is a manager or supervisor of the company. Please understand it is just as risky for a purchaser to sned money to you for samples as it is for your company to take on the expense of mailing a free sample. But if both are willing to be flexible a prosperous relation will emerge!

Replying to [Thtonghua]: Im sorry but your comment is not true. Please keep in mind that TT have hefty fees to pay compared to the small cost of sending free samples to customers. Many sellers must learn to find other methods like Money Gram or Western Union instead of TT's. From my country no bank wires directly to chinese bank, so I must pay 2 bank fee's for TT that equals $50usd- way to much to spend for a "free sample"!

Sorry but sometimes "instinct" can be confused with lack of knowledge. Look for options in methods of payments because an atitude like that will not go far establishing business relations! Customers just learning the ways of importing are trusting sales reps to assist them, not treat them worthless. Unfortunately your answer reflects the latter. But if you provide optional methods of paying mailing costs like Western Union and or Money Gram the customer will see and feel as if you want to work with him or her and begin to build a trusting relationship with you.

Dont discard a possible client due to your lack of knowledge!!!

A buyer will only be more than interested in paying for the transport cost. If a company can send free samples then that is a bonus.

I do not mind paying via TT for samples even though it is expensive for a sample. As i have every intention of doing business if quality is right.
