Replying to [PowerEric]: I would think that there would not be a reason that you cannot do that HOWEVER...
I am a buyer in the US, and here are the things that I think about...
1- How well can I communicate with my contacts (how is your English? The word is idea, not idear). If your primary second language is English (or what ever), PERFECT it. Clients from the US will be more likely to depend on you if they feel you understand what they are trying to say.

2 - Take advantage of the internet, and set up a phone number that can be dialed without expense to your client in the country you want to do business in. Make doing business with you EASY. And don't forget a GOOD WEBSITE! (ok... I'm a web-designer and always say that... lol)

3 - Make a digital camera your best friend! One of the issues I have is that I cannot drive over to China, have lunch with a supplier. It would be good for you to be able to send digital photos to your clients of the items they are concerned with. Send more than needed.

4 - More is better... Just like pictures, if you give better service than expected... you will get other sales. You will also get the BEST business of all... the referral.

5 - TRUST TRUST TRUST TRUST TRUST.... Do what you say, each time, every time, all the time! Nothing blows a deal over-seas faster than the mere appearance of distrust.

6 - Offer something simple to do for a nice price, such as a business introduction package. Visit a company, take photos, and send your client a small report about what you see, as well as any information you can pick up locally... Do it for USD25 or so. This should pay for your time, and you can begin building a client base from this. You can also do several a day...

7 - Find a way to understand your target market. If it's the US, learn business customs in that country, if it's Holland, England, Canada... same thing. KNOW YOUR CLIENT...

Anyway... there are some thoughts...
Good luck!
