TV, Radio, Newspapers and the Internet are kinds of the existing media, they also allow us to do many things that we could not do in the past. The Internet is a mass media. It is possible to publish print material on the Internet. It is possible to distribute video or audio through the Internet. It has characteristics of the postal service because of e-mail. It has characteristics of the telephony service because you can have point to point communications between individuals, companies or individual to company and it can also be a telephone service as well as a messaging service.
The Internet will be able to connect through the telephone lines, which are very common and have been around for more than 25 years. The world’s largest and most widely used network is the Internet. Mr. Laudon said that ‘The Internet is an International Network of networks that are both commercial and publicly owned’.
The Internet connects thousands of different networks from nearly 200 countries around the world. Today there may be 500 million individual PC’s using the internet, (Moving Into the Digital Decade, 2001) which is not a huge number compared to the world's population. Nobody know when we can reach the billionth, but it could be somewhere between 2004 and 2006. It is estimated that there would be about a billion devices on the Internet as well. A lot of these devices will be used by normal PC’s and laptops, but we will see many appliances like mobiles with built-in WAP.
The next generation of the Internet may lead to a fundamental change in the e-commerce, to some extent convenience and easier access of the tools such as wireless e-commerce (M-commerce). Personal Computer (PC) will become smaller and smaller in the future, with the Central Process Unit so small that they will be built into the mobile. So Mobile-commerce will bring us into a new century. In the near future, people can go online anytime and anywhere without the PC.
Mobile devices will become slighter and more consistent data transmission in the future, hence M-commerce will provide a more effective means of business communication both internally and externally in the form of intranet and extranet. ‘The company also offers an e-business such as B2B (business to Business) B2C (business to consumer) and B2P (Business to Public)’.
(Business Commerce, 2002)
Beyond the earth
The future Internet will not be limited on the space, the virtual net will not only cover the earth but also beyond the earth. As long as you have any kind of online machine, you can use it to surf the Internet anywhere to the deepest of the Ocean or the outer-most of space.
After a few centuries, man cannot live in the land because of the war. Most people will die, but survivors will rebuild homeland into the ocean or live at the other planets. At that time the Internet will become a unique media to communication for human between the Ocean man and the outer-Space man.
Net War (more Hackers and crackers)
Hackers and Crackers will increase in number in the future internet so the third world war will be the Net War without using Nuclear Warheads. According as the hackers and Crackers will be increased by more skillful users, hence the Net War cannot be avoided.
After that the Net Police will be in charge of Net traffic. If you go against the Net Law, you will become an offender and be arrested to the Net Court. Then the Net Judge will give you a fair judgment. That will be called Net Peace.
In the future the Internet will be more user-friendly, even everybody has two lives. One is real life, the other is lived in the world of computers where you may become rely on it for your living conditions. Basic necessities can be ordered through the internet, for example food and clothing. Arrangement of meetings can be made online and attended at home making it popular in the future.
Besides, Virtual Marriage would be available in the future. Virtual churches would also be built in the virtual cyberculture. Hence a couple can be married in the virtual church. Therefore the future generation can rely on the virtual churches so the existing churches can be eliminated. The continuous flow of life in the future will have to base on the Internet.
In the future, the existing hospital will be replaced by Net Hospital, because of reduction of the distance between their house and the hospital as well as more choices will be provided. When people are sick, they can find the best hospital and search for specialtist as they want.
Patients can browse through over the Internet and see a doctor in the virtual reality. ‘Virtual Reality is a way for humans to visualize, manipulate and interact with computers and extremely complex data’. (What is Virtual reality, 1999) When a doctor wants a mount of heart beat, the Pulse Meter machine will help to get a data into a light and then connect to Personal Computer (PC). After that the data will be delivered to the doctor.
E-learning will be more and more popular in the future, so as to the existing school will be eliminated. Because the cost of running a virtual school is cheaper, consequently the current school will no longer exist in the next century. At that time all the school will build in the virtualworld, and so various courses will be offered in the Internet 24-hours.
Students will be able to attend their favourite subjects with Virtual Reality, according to the Internet will provide more choice for us. He or she also has authority to choose any course and lecturer as he wants. For instance, he or she may choose any historic people, who are Chairman Mao and President Deng to teach history while they will bring him into the previous age.
Cyber Dialogue estimates that in 1999, 27 million adults shopped online for travel and leisure services, double the number in 1998. Cyber Dialogue further concludes that travel shoppers now comprise more than a third of the total online population. Cyber Dialogue estimates 44% make travel and leisure purchases online.
(Online Travel Shoppers, 2002)
The Internet will become a new kind of marketplace, so shopping online will become more popular in the Cyberworld after a few years, everybody can call your friend and go shopping with Virtual Reality Surfing in the Internet, where will be built-in physical construction at the virtual cyberculture.
Therefore the virtual life become a true, people can find a job in the future Internet such as people will set a virtual cyberbusiness in the internet, so that a virtual consumer can buy a virtual goods at the virtual shop, Therefore the virtual cyberculture will be built as well.
Chip in the ****
‘DNA computing has sparked intense interest because more information can be stored on molecules of DNA than any silicon computer chip. Scientists estimate that a dried gram of DNA can store more information than a trillion CDs’.
(DNA Helix Model, 2002)
Therefore we will use chip installed and fixed into the **** for online that is a new technology in the future, so the Internet will become Virtual Reality. The **** becomes a CPU to control the chip, while human senses become a monitor to display all the virtual construction.
For instance, when people want to surf on the www.yahoo.com, he or she only uses his or her feeling to control the mouse and then click it. After that the webpage will be displayed. So everybody can use it for online, especially the disabled man will benefit from this technology.
E-commerce transaction cycle faster
In the future Teleportfrared will be invented by the human, who combine two technologies between teleportation and infrared, thus the transaction cycle will nearly be removed. The function of Teleportfrared is that a physical body is broken into the smallest component –atoms, that are transferred at the speed of light 30×10^12 KM/SEC to another space. After that the atoms are reorganized to form molecules and last but not least into the organically physical body. That is a miracle which will be created by the human.
At that time consumers and companies can merely buy a special Teleportfrared machine. Therefore when consumers collects goods, the company will deliver the goods through the Internet by using the Teleportfrared machine. Therefore they can get the goods in time.
The Internet will become the most important part of human life In the future, so nobody can live without the Internet. Everybody will act a particular role for creating a virtalculture on that. But the Internet will still have its limitations, because the Internet is only a virtual media used by the people.
Up to now nobody can know how the Internet will be in the future, even though he or she is a knowledgeable man like Mr. Bill Gates. I always try to make an imaging the future for the Internet, because I want to gain more knowledge that I did not learn before. As long as the Internet will become more popular and useful, we need to explore the unforeseen field for the future needs.
