In my opinion there are two requirements: talk to real good native English speakers, and talk to them a lot. Your conversation with them will eventually help you improve your conversation skills.

Replying to [defi]: Whilst I agree practice is important, I would also say listening to English speech can be just as important. When I was young a friend of my parents, who spoke English very well claimed going to the cinema several times a week, which allowed him to concentrate, greatly improved his English language.

Replying to [defi]:The basic reason for the English is difficult is just because first we try to understand the sentence in our language, then think a reply in that language only and again translate in English, whereas the best way to improve is try to think in English itself. Do not translate or mix with your own language.
All the Best.

Quoting from Germex:
''talk to real good native English speakers''...,
Does this mean, there are not many good native English speakers?

Actually, as bad as it might sound, that's what I wanted to say. Among all native speakers of any language in the world, English speakers are probably the worst, on an average.
The best English speakers I've heard are the news "anchors" (the main speakers in the studio) of any national news channel. Anybody else is at least questionable.

There are 3 simple things that you can do to improve your English, it only takes about 20-30 minutes in total a day.
1. Listen to CNN or BBC or any other English news channel, for at least 10-15 minutes. Try to understand them and if you do have a problem not understanding them, write down that word. Same goes for Movies, if you don´t understand them write down the word, or the best option if you have a DVD player, then you can use subtitles.
2. Read English news papers, books or literature, at least 10 minutes or 20 minutes a day, the best thing to read is usually comics short and easy.
3. Try to think English, sounds funny, but try to think English anything that you think in your language translate it into English, it doesn´t have to be perfect, but practice makes the master. This is particularly good with music, if you have a favorite music let it play in your head where you actively sing along too.
This are the things I did, it improved my English quiet a lot. Once you get a habit of this, then the next would be to participate forums and chat rooms. Always try to read loud not only in your mind, that will improve your pronunciation.
Actually this practices go for every language.

Replying to [defi]:Watch movies,TV show on the internet,Rent video in English which are subtitled in your language. The sounds slowly become familiar. the use of the same words in different situations help explain the many uses of certain words
If you can watch old movies50's to 80's you will hear more talking. The sentence structure in older movies is easier to follow.

The association of the words and the film will help you remember the words easier.
Everyone learns differently, I hope you find the right sources for your knowledge.
Sincerely,
Jimmy
