They deliver what people like.

Various types of music and dances are deeply rooted in Indian culture and performed during most auspicious and happier occasions.

It is like adding spices to the dish and works effectively. Of-course there are art movies also without all this stuff but these films usually don't make much on box office.

Replying to [Braham S Aggarwal]:You mean the India film without dancing and singing would not be a box office film?so all the actor and actris must have dancing and singing skill, by the way the singing voice is original or just lipsync?

India commercial cinema usually have all this stuff to do well financially.

Dancing is a must for every actor/ actress to survive in this industry. There are many schools and professionals to train them and the new comers.

Singing is performed by playback singers and recorded separately. Afterwards the artists performs on the songs and do lipsync. Sometimes a few of the artists sing their songs themselves during recording.

Replying to [davindo]: Hi Rani, its nice to see that people are taking interest in Indian culture and films.

Just for your information Indian Film Industry is bigger than Hollywood. In India there are number of parallel film industries exist such as Bollywood, Tollywood etc.

Where in Bollywood represents Mumbai-based Hindi-language films while Tollywood represents Telugu languages films.

Bollywood is one of the largest film producers in the world, producing more than 1,000 films a year with an audience of 3.6 billion people.

Songs from Bollywood movies are generally pre-recorded by professional playback singers, with the actors then lip synching the words to the song on-screen, often while dancing. While most actors, especially today, are excellent dancers, few are also singers. One notable exception was Kishore Kumar, who starred in several major films in the 1950s while also having a stellar career as a playback singer. K. L. Saigal, Suraiyya, and Noor Jehan were also known as both singers and actors.
