India is planning to ban export of non-Basmati rice
Post 1 of 10
India is one of the significant exporters of rice. The non-Basmati rice varieties are mainly exported from the eastern ports especially from Andrapradesh state. On 9th October the government took a policy decision to ban the exports. After representation by many exporters, they are reconsidering the decision.
There is an argument that India is a populous country and has to take care of food security. At the same time, many farmers and exporters are purely thrive on exports and the loss of export revenue in foreign currency is also a big concern. I would like the members to express their opinion to open up a healthy discussion.

Keep enough in food is on the top. But,to inida, there are more population in farm, export rice could increase earning of farmer. So,i think on the condition of enough rice, encourageing export is a good idea.

Replying to [cyber chap]:sir, avery good topic and interesting also. india is a very big country and is a very big exporters of food products.
as you are aware that indiansare spreaded worldwide and they depended on their own food products.
rice is a very important commodity. the decision to ban will harm the economy plus revenue/ foreign exchange. every body cannot afford to eat basmati rice.
take for example middle east. the amount of indians are more than any other nationality. and the daily course of food is rice.
there are lots of varities of indian non basmati rice exported to middle east , by putting a ban to this export the farmers also will be at a loss.
so i feel a total ban should not be put but upto a certain limit.
warm regards

I don't know what basmati rice is but reading from you guys it seems to be a high quality rice. If the government ban export on the non basmati rice then more and more to convert into planting the basmati rice. The price is higher so it generate more value add.
The govenment must control this properly so that there will not be too much supply and shortage of the normal rice

Thanks. There is no clear cut line where the excess starts more than local demand. This starts all the discussion.

Your concern is correct. The Indian ex-expatriates in the middle east may suffer more when the price is high. The Indian exporters/farmers too.

The Basmati varieties are costlier and cant be grown in all terrains, nor can be consumed by all sections of people.

If our country export non basmathi rice to other countries there will be a shortage in rice.
so the rice price can increase .i think this is the reson.
