I would like to start a juice business on a small scale where I can purchase the juice concentrate, make the drink from it, and sell the drink. I would like to know if anyone can provide any practical information or help me on how I can start this kind of business. I know I would need to obtain the juice concentrate, make the drink, bottle it, label it, distribute/sell it to niche market. That's what I know right now any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Well, your post doesn't make it clear, but maybe you have already done it: the market study. I would call that the first step. If that looks good, I would find out about sanitary regulations. After that find the providers, probably wholesellers in your case. They might also help you make it easier to comply with the sanitary regulations. Then write up yor business proposal with all the numbers and talk to the banks. - Good luck!

Hi there,

This is how I partly started it, still working on it though. I am working on a Energy drink concept.

1. Initially I went out to find out the competing brands, what are their retail prices. Went into stores and asked them for their distributors (make sure you note them). And from the distributors I got the wholesale rates.

2. After find out the wholesale value of the goods, I looked up in the Internet for companies who produce this products, agents or manufacturer, did an inquiry, for how much it costs to produce this item. Then you get a manufacturing prices. By now you have a rough idea, on how much the base item costs you without any profit earned.

3. Now i started to look for the machines needed for production of what I desired, this information you can get by visiting factories who already produce this items. In your case all you need is a mixer, basically a giant cylinder with a shaker inside, and a outlet valve at the bottom of it, depending on what quantity you want to produce, please note that you will have to measure in cubic inches.

4. Since you already did the market survey by finding the prices, you can also get a sample piece of every company that there is, to taste their product to get your imagination running. You can go to local stores, and by concentrates in small quantity, and test the product you want at home. Once you know the quantity needed for the ingredient, find the suppliers and wholesalers.

5. By now you should have all the info, how, when, why and what. Now before you keep on going, you need to have a packing machine as well, that will vacuum pack it for you and hygienic.

6. Before you start up, get the information from the Authorities of what ever licensing you need before you start up, never ever neglect that. Other wise you will close before you even started. In your case you will have to go to the Food and Processing department.

7. Make sure whatever you do, always have at least 70% of the capital safe and 30% of your capital invested, that will give you a cushion, in case of failure to restart.

8. Calculate your total cost of start up, find a suitable location that gives ease of transportation and add the renting cost as well. Then you need to calculate your manufacturing cost of the product and your proposed selling price. You should be able to recover your invested money in around 6 months, if that doesn´t happen in your calculation, don´t start up, see what you can do better. By the way, try to calculate on minimum profits and maximum costs.

9. Once you have started up, make sure you never ever rely on your workers, be there do it yourself.

10. Now the distributor list will come handy, also if you have maintained contact with them from the start that will help you out greatly. You will have a hard time selling your product at the stores themselves, but if you work with the distributor together, a little less profit, but a easier start up, since he is already supply every store that there is.

Hope that you got some new idea.

Best of Luck
