Buying Agents VS Manufacturer
Post 1 of 8
If a buying agents can get you the resources to the bottom price,
And the big manufacturer's Cost structure are high in overhead then in the end, buying agents can give you lower price..
Why dealing with big manufacturer is more appealing ?

Not all agents are the same.  Agents that get best price are those that have the reputation of bringing qualified buyers to companies.  If your an agent doing your first few deals you have no repuatation and the manufacturer's have no way of knowing how you do business.   Another falacy is that large companies have higher overhead than do smaller companies, on the contrary smaller businesses have higher overhead than do larger businesses in the same fields as it relates to net profits.  Overhead / net profits is the killer of all new small businesses.

Replying to [Sarosa]:hello, although sometimes the buying agents have lower price, while their quality cannot garentee.for the big manufacturer, they have good repute and also can always supply quality goods. eg.we are manufacturer of the hair wigs, sometimes, the buying agents want us price lower, we have to give them little weight or cheaper material products to meet their price. but for the customers, maybe they cannot recgnize the difference of the materials, in fact their price can buy the quality goods with the real manufacturer. and if the customers have some questions about our wigs. we can also deal with the cast quickly. but for the buyer agent, especilly the small ones, maybe they will disappear.and the customers have to load this loss. so for the first time to do business, i agree with to do with big manufacturer, although the price maybe little higher, while the quick delivery and the garentee will win the market. so hope you have good luck to find the realiable manufacturer for your business.

In my opinion, if a buyer is unfamiliar with the country's culture and language and at the same time, the manufacturer does not have a dedicated sales agent, then there may be some benefits in using the sales agent's services. That's assuming that the sales agent is local to the manufacturer's area and speaks the buyer's language.

In a traditional setup, the sales agent is the bridge between the communication and cultural gap of the buyer and manufacturer. There is also a possibility that a sales agent is able to bypass exclusive foreign distribution rights of a certain product. For example, if X-Company has an exclusive distribution rights from Z-Company's product in X-Country, then a local sales agent may be able to buy the product from Z-Company since he/she does not fall under the exclusivity of foreign distribution. This is sometimes known as the grey market.

Replying to [Carlo]:I agree with you. Just as alibaba, buying agents are suitable for lots of medium-small manufacturers in the specific industry. In my opinion. alibaba is the biggest buying agents in the world.

The answer to your question is simple, Buying Agents does not hold control over the actual delivery lead-time. He/She will always tend to change the delivery lead time, next week, to next month, it's up to the manufacturer.

Sometimes that makes the order got cancelled because 1 or 2 days difference.
I prefer dealing with manufacturer/producer, so that I can hear - and feel and try to extrapolate - what is going on over the phone. "When will my goods really coming?" [em5]
