I'm building a computer and the motherboard i bought came with an IDE cable and a SATA cable. The IDE cable doesn't work with my hard drive, so i'm using it on my CD dive. However, the motherboard also came with a SATA cable. Will the SATA cable work the same as a IDE cable?

SATA is 100% compatible. It just provides higher transfer rate. SATA devices also uses less power. There should be an adapter for the power connector as well if your power supply does not come with SATA power connectors.

Replying to [zongren]:Yes, it will. Most drives have both types of connections, because SATA is fairly new and older motherboards do not support it. I would recommend using the SATA, reason being it is faster. I hope this helps.
