As many of you know, people can send emails from addresses that aren't really their own.
The email address itself could be real and 100% legitimate, but it does not belong to them.
In the guide "10 Tips for Safe Trading" I found the following advice:
"Beware of Fake E-mail Addresses
It is possible for anyone with some technical knowledge to send an email with a fake address. When you receive an email from someone you know or whose email address appears legitimate, but the message of the email looks suspicious, you can verify whether the email came from the person whom the sender claims to be by using a simple procedure to check the email address."
The very last sentence says that there are ways to verify whether the email was sent by the real owner of the email address, but it doesn't provide any more details.
Can anyone give me some pointers? What is this 'simple procedure' that they speak of? Are there some web tools that I can use to see if an email address is being 'masked' with another email address?
