Hi, every friends, maybe you encountered the same situation as me. I quote for my customers who is from Yugoslavia, and he replid that he got more competitive price from other suppliers.

What should I reply to this customer? As I know our price is neither the highest nor the lowest, I don't know how to reply him though I don't want to lose him. Did you have some better advice and share it?

Replying to [Lanjin]:First, you shouldn't lower your price easily since it let your customer think you give discount very often.

I think you can focus on why you cannot offer further discount(lack of quantity etc) or why your products are more expensive than other products(focus on high quality etc).

If you think you can offer more discount, you can ask him how much he would like exactly, and then tell him you can offer only 2% or 5% since the price you have quoted first is your best price.

However, if you cannot offer further discount, just thell him. Even if he leaves, it has no meaning to establish a business relationship with him for little profit.

Replying to [Lanjin]:It happens
One product , I started with an american distributer. I then found a better price in china .And made orders and then other offers came in one was higher I told him the truth . his price is too high . But one was lower with better shipping costs so I put in a trial order . I was very happy and had to tell my other suppliers I was getting a better price .
I was not trying to bargan just explaining why I changed suppliers

Hi you should put yourself in a shoe of a buyer.

Normally when I place a buying leads I will get about 20 to 30 respond and quote. Those suppliers who quoted out of range ( say 25 percent and above ) will be put at the bottom of the list. If they follow up I will tell them the real situation. If they refuse to discount most probably they don’t stand a chance at all.

My suggestion is always quote at your best price, if your price is not the top 3 cheapest your quote will not get much attention. Normally the buyer will not even try to negotiate with you. Why would they try to negotiate with you when they can spend their time to negotiate with other that have quote lower. This is common sense, no buyer will be so free to explain and negotiate in detail to all the 20 to 30 people who have quoted.

If you don’t believe me just try to create a profile with a foreign company name and start to post a buying lead, see how many quote you have, how professional the seller is and what is the price range.

Dear Lanjin,
As buyer I can confirm you what David write!
I'm just looking for different products and I have put my first request on-line; it's absolutely incredible the number of answer I received!
So to find the right partner it's really difficult....
But that's right that I don't have time to negotiate with all of them, so I chose following contact when
1) price is good (not necessary the cheapest)
2) when I have a good feeling (yes! you can have a feeling with an e-mail exchange)

I wish you doing good business!
