can someone point me into the direction I need to go to get a design I created that is a safety improvement on an existing baby product. it is very little added cost to current product and could sell for almost double. I have made several for family and friends and all agree they would not go back to the original product and think it should be mass produced, but I am clueless to how to get it done. any suggestions or if anyone is interested....I look forward to hearing from you.

Replying to [ajpurves]: Here below my personal idea.

1.find a small mill, tell them your idea & design, product specification etc., make 100-200 pcs first time, you check the quality all match with your instruction.

2.try to sell them, and you will know the reaction from consumer;obtain their suggestion & amend your product, and you will know the q'ty next will be produce, maybe 500-1000pcs.

3.if good marketability, you can find a big manufacturer, and then make mass production.

Hello there,

If you have such a product at hand, then the first thing you should do is get it Authenticated in your name, that way nobody can steal your idea, just talk to a lawyer about it.

Now to the production, first of all you need to see what budget you have, usually its hard to find a producer who immidiatley jumps onto your idea, and specially to start out with a small order isn´t what they always want to hear.

So how to approach this, find mills that are new, small, and looking for business. This types of mills are beneficial since they cannot steal your idea and produce it themself, and you have the last word on whats going to happen, since you are one of the few customers they have they will value your opinion at all times, unlike big mills. Where you can find them, if you post your ad that you are looking to produce an item, on b2b websites, the small mills will find you, the big mills usually don´t go for that, then all you got to do is get their stats and compare them with others if they match your criteria.

Now you have a production site for your product, but what about the sale, find small stores, since you have a baby product, it would be best to find baby shops, small business, offer them your product on commission, that way they have no obligation and money invested, and will promote your product to get the money. There you will find out how your product is really doing. Talk to at least 5-10 shops, at different locations, and ofcourse top spots.

Once you have that, you would need at least 200-500 pcs of your product. Make sure you keep try to get the enduser feedback, are the sizes okay, what colors are prefered, what could be done better.

It will take you at least 6months to get the next stage of medium production, since now your product has evolved. You need to put now heavy emphasis, on more advertising as well, and sale promotions, to attract more traders to your product. Remember you are still working with the small mill of yours, don´t change them unless you really have too, or are at the point of having at least 100 Trading customers, who have a total demand of couple thousand pcs. This will help you to safe money, and reduce the risk of being copied.

Well, I could go on about this, but I hope you got the idea.

Hope that helps you out.

Replying to [ajpurves]:It is really gr8 to have your comment / question. Safety is rightly one of the major topics of our time. Hence you have to be very particular about your improvement as far as safety regulations are concerned.

Try to get the sample manufactured and being tested and approved then only go for mass production.

All the Best.
