MEXICO, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A trade exhibition hosted by China's Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) was taking place in Guatemala city this week.

The event, the first of its kind in Guatemala, covers an area of 3,000 square meters with the participation of 24 companies from nine provinces and municipalities including Beijing, Shanghai, Fujian and Guangdong.

Exhibits include cars, motorcycles, communication products and electrical appliances. The four-day exhibition was due to finish Saturday.

Yu Peng, vice president of the council said at the opening ceremony that the council has always promoted economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and the two sides have maintained smooth exchanges and cooperation in this regard.

According to Chinese statistics, the trade volume between China and Guatemala has grown steadily since 2005. In 2006, China's export volume to Guatemala reached 730 million U.S. dollars, a 28.7-percent rise over the same period in 2005. In the first half of 2007, trade volume between the two countries totaled 404 million U.S. dollars.
