The 3-day Third Conference of Integrative Chinese and Western Medicine was inaugurated September 22nd and was jointly hosted by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Guangdong Association of Integrative Medicine.


Together with 300 overseas experts, there were more then 1,000 experts from 15 countries and regions including China, the U.S.A, the U.K, Germany, Denmark, Japan, Canada, Australia, Austria, Viet Nam, South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. The conference was characterized by its' larger scale, with more specialists from China and abroad with papers of higher quality being presented suggesting that great progress has been made in the development of integrative medicine in the past five years.


Dr Choi Seung-Hoon, Medical Officer for Traditional Medicine of the WHO Western Pacific Regional Office, said that China had made significant and rapid progress in the popularization of traditional Chinese medicine. He pointed out that traditional Chinese medicine, compared with Western medicine, boasts better effects in curing some diseases.


According to a nationwide survey completed by the Chinese Association of Integrative Medicine in 2004, 71.2% of the patients prefer integrative medicine over 'modern' methods.
