BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - China's Guangdong Dapeng LNG Terminal, located in the southern city of Shenzhen, is still seeking liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers, said a senior official from one of the shareholders.

The terminal is looking for suppliers for the short, medium and long terms, Luther Hicks, senior vice president of project development under Gas China BP (China) Holdings Ltd, told the Asia LNG Summit in Beijing.

Earlier, the terminal received its first shipment of 127,000 cubic meters of LNG from Western Australia. The shipment is part of an agreement signed in 2002 by CNOOC and Australia's North West Shelf Australia LNG Pty Ltd to supply 3.3 mln tons of LNG annually for 25 years.

Hicks said that the terminal has a designed capacity to handle 5 mln tons of LNG per year, and has already received six LNG shipments from spot markets, including from Australia, Nigeria and Oman.

Guangdong Dapeng LNG Co, owner of the LNG terminal, is a 29.1 bln yuan joint venture whose shareholders include CNOOC and BP Plc.
