Although some people might say "as much as you can get away with" it will all depend on what goods you are buying and selling, and whether you are looking at making a high profit for one time only, or if you want to make a good profit on a regular basis

Let's look at some items.

For normal, everyday  household items etc., usually anywhere between 5-10%

For expensive items maybe down to about 2-5%, depending on quantity

For items like minerals (e.g. coal, iron ore, scrap steel etc) about 50 cents - $1 per ton.

The secret is DON'T be greedy, keep both buyer and seller happy, and they will continue to do business with you

Replying to [Tektron]: The commisison will be 0.5% to 1% that all so depend upon the products. If the value goes higher the % can come down.

Depends upon product you are dealing with,
Also a major factor is on what basis , if its like spot deal and the chances of getting deal again is rare, no hestitaion in getting maximum without letting the deal go sour...
But if the work would be on regular basis then a lesse commission is always better, it helps in your business in long run ....

i think it is depending on sort of the materials and the quantity

for exap. for coal, iron ore, scrap steel etc usually it is 1%

for For expensive items like cars 2 %

for foods until 10%

so your target is to keep both buyer and seller happy and not how much you'll win .

that the Successful is to continue and not to win for one time only .

best Regards

Replying to [Tektron]: In my view , the agent should be know , the more profits based on the large quantity , not the commission rate ! then , in order to get more commission , the agent should try to promote the goods ! no paying attention to the commission rate .

Replying to [Harjeet ]:But I am sure this commission is for small shipments in containers.Right? For big quantities in bulk 1$/mt is a very good ammount.Even if take only 50 cents,15,000 US$/month as commission for 360k mt contract, is more than enough.I'm sure everyone from this Forum agree with me.

Hey Aus, What would you define as an "expensive" product? I mean what type of price would you consider the cut-off point? US$50? 100?

I think I should have an idea of this since my next purchases may include some more highly priced products.
Thanks
