How to make life hard for scammers ?
Post 1 of 15
[em6]Do you know the feeling when you open your mailbox - another scammer - or did you first realize when you had spent time reading it...
I started to report the scammer to their host hoping to have their account closed.
Do you think it's a good idea or does it make things worse - or do you have an even better solution to annoy scammers more than they annoy us. [em20]

There are millions of little ways you can annoy them, have fun with them, and hurt them financially. Visit www.aa419.org to learn how to effectively get their sites shut down, or for example www.scambaits.com to annoy them in other ways.

Replying to [Peter_WoodShop]:I really don't know what to get out of www.aa419.com - it's a huge collection of sponsored links mostly on how to make business in a somewhat doubtable way ?!
The other website seems new, but interesting. but scambaiting seems to be an even more time consuming job - I do appreciate that someone does it.
It made me think if it would be possible to send the scammer "money" in "cash" in a way that they had to pay to pick up the package - that would certainly annoy them.
Well, for my sake I would prefer just to annoy them e.g. by getting their mail account shut down with a few minute effort, or something else with a minimum waste of time.

Hallo Peter,

I try since long time to convince the head moderators Admin etc. to require stronger conditions when apply to Alibaba, to prevent the mass opening of scammer sites !
All was rejected or in prospect posed for the future !
As I read now, you have a way to close e-mail accounts with low work, can you please give me some information ! In that I am very interested ! Please use my Trade manager to contact !

To require stronger conditions like ID copy or only a comparisation of used telephone numbers would be a way to make the life for scammers harder, but meanwhile I have the meaning that this is not wanted, to keep the Sites in the Headlines !

Replying to [Peter_WoodShop]:Dear Wilhelm and All,

I will answer here as it is of interest to everybody and no secret.

If I receive a scam mail from a free mail account I simply report it to the host/domain.

Sometimes you can just forward the scam mail with your comment to the mail address spam@theactualfreemaildomain if they don't support that, I report the scam mailaccount through a form (usually found through the bottom links on the freemail domains main page.

At least the scammer has to spend time creating a new account and will not receive phished replies from others that fall for the scam.
Hopefully if many people report the scammer, the freemail domains will feel they have to take actions in order to reduce their time on complaints.

In order not to block mail addresses that has been "borrowed", always check the properties of the scam mail to see if it's actually send from the freemail domain or it has another reply address.
It would be nice if Alibaba had a button "Report Scam" so the scammers using Alibaba accounts can be nuked immediately.

Thanks Peter for your reply, I will try it out !

You can report scammers on Alibaba when you have doubts about them, use :

http://www.alibaba.com/trade/servlet/page/static/help/contact_us_answer
and scroll to complaints or fraud, in the headline !

If you have a real scammer who is Trust Pass or Gold Member you can do it in the same way but you have to provide copies what happened, to prove your complaint. You will get a message for all reports about 24-36 hours later, with the results !

Making life of scammers is easy only if you ahve ample of spare time and some money to waste of which I guess only 1-2 % of us , other 98% like me,
What I do is whenevr I get a scammer e-mail asking me to contact mr this , giving long list of telephone numbers , e-mail adresses...
I simply give a missed call on those numbers from a internt phone , as its number doesnt go and a simple mail that I have forwarded the mail to FBI or stating other agency like Scotland yard fraud wing stuff and you will soon be hearing from the officers as you are frauds, and belive me next time try to contact on that number and it will be out of service....
Its best to scare them that way...

Replying to [Peter_WoodShop]: You know Mr. Peter my collegue here in Alibaba, Scammer take their time to spend to their victim, how ever if this scammer, cannot get a reply from their victims, they are move away and get another to victim. Even you suggest to be closed their account, it is a simple way to stop them. You know it is a Internet its a computer, its a world wide connection, so if their account being closed, only in a internet account, it will not work, you only waste your time to do that, as i said it is a connection an internet. What they do?! They make another account to victim again... You cannot break the scammers unless they are tired to do the crime. Isn't it?

Yes, the point is to make them tired. Make sure scamming activities is unworthy for their living in cyber. Huge reasons why they tired, but at the end they will never do it again. How to make them tired? Please read Fraudwatcher said.
And as you know, there is legal organization to handle those scam activities, so use it and get help from them or help them to completing their task.

If they annoy you, is it wasting time?
