The Three Gorges Dam
Post 1 of 3
The construction for the world's biggest dam, the three gorges dam in Wuhan, started from conception as early as 1999, and 20 May 2006 marks the occassion of the completion of the dam wall.

This is the biggest construction China undertakes since the building of the Great Wall. The dam wall is 2 km wide, 185 metre high. After its completion with turbines and generators installed, the dam will produce 18.2 million kilowatts of electricity, which is about 10% of China's total power usage. This is equivalent to the power generated by 18 nuclear power plants.

Benefits beside power generation, are: saving the environment from greenhouse effect from burning fossile fuel. About 80% of China's power generation plants runs on coal.

Replying to [Street Smart]:The three gorges dam project entered the milestone for the completion of the wall.

However the project is not completed yet, as the turbines generators, power distribution delivery, feeders and tie to the Power Grid is scheduled to be completed in 2009.

But the completion of the wall is one good evidence of China's efficiency and capability to handle such major project successfully. This outward signs give us insight into the good management, financial power, engineering and leadership ability of the Chinese government, including the discipline of their line level staff and middle managers.
