Over the past few years, the internet has become one of the most important tools for business. It makes the search for business and trading information extremely convenient and very simple.

However, the internet also has a negative side. While business is made easier on the internet, e-business fraud is becoming more and more common. Stories of businessmen being cheated in scams are common and everyone wants to know how to make e-commerce safer.

Have you ever been the victim of e-business fraud?  How do you avoid scams? Is avoiding fraud easy?[em3][em21]

Most fraud consists low quality fake brand name goods (sold as genuine) or schemes to ship shonk worthless goods.

That sort of fraud is rapidly growing because B2B operators like Alibaba charge the shonk Chinese operators huge fees for Gold membership which novice Western buyers believe means "reputable supplier".

To answer your good question. No, it is not easy to avoid e-business scams while the Alibabas of this world do not care about fake products and shoddy goods scams conducted by Gold members.

I'm not too sure whether Alibaba managers or the shonk Gold members should get locked up with the key thrown away. [em3]

I FULLY agree with you Aussie, and while there are so many GREEDY Westerners out there, who think they can buy Brand Name Goods from China at a very cheap price and make huge profits, and agree to send money by Western Union, these Scammers will thrive and grow and make fortunes.
My forum (Basics) is getting too many postings like "I sent money for brand name goods and got scammed"

Replying to [Admin]: I believe in what Aussie has said as well as Grigo. But with a slightly different spin. Alibaba attracts thousands of new buyers weekly that do not understand the processes of buying around the world. For those of us like Aussie, Grigo and myself and others that have been in this type of business for years we understand the traps and pitfalls. We know how to evaluate potential trade partners and I'd say that for those of us with this experience, it came with face to face meetings of our suppliers where a hand shake was an honorable agreement between trade partners.

e-business has taken that out of the equation in that there is no way to know a trading partner, except that they be totally transparent to each other. Which without this leads to mis-trust.

What I really see as being the number one goal of not Alibaba but Chinese businessmen in general is to push for ways in which Chinese goverment sites are open to english searching of company details. This is because english really is the second language to world trade. This is the best and most straight forward progression that could happen. It would knock down the barriers, and open up more trade for smaller Chinese companies while significantly reducing the plague of illegal and fraudulent businesses.

The fact will reamain that there will always be those individuals seeking to make money in less than honorable ways in every nation of the world.

For me my very first trade deal 26 years ago involved a round trip ticket to India where I met a 58 year old man that at best spoke broken english. But by meeting him, seeing and talking to him as best we could communicate. There was no contract just a hand shake. His company grew as mine did also and still to this day, I do business with his sons. There still is no contract between us except for that hand shake given in mutual respect. They ship and I pay. There has never been an issue of quality because they refuse to ship anything less than the best they can make.

This is what e-business doesnt afford trading partners and the reason my self quote has remained, TRADE = Trust Respect And Delivering Excellence/ Its always a two way street.

best regards,

Ranger

Replying to [Admin]: I agree with Grigo, Aussie, Ranger.

But Alibaba must have to take some necessary strong & carefull steps for the suppliers background and there production capability or what they are producing before alloting them Premium or Gold member Ship.

Many Suppliers get there membership by paying a membership fee and that member start offering Branded Goods.

In this way Alibaba name goes bad as buyer think that the Gold Supplier member is a Genuine Supplier and they will send goods as per there commitment.

Aliababa is a great B2B services for buyer and suppliers but for some fake spammers / bad suppliers is easy way to cheat new clients and create hassles.

I agree with Aussie, Ranger and Grig etc.
As a large B2B platform, Alibaba may have to do more verification work on stopping the scams online, more strict measures have to be made against the scammers, esp to those have been discovered as business scammers by so many buyers online. Alibaba has the right and responsibility to cancel their Gold membership and delete their scam information online. ..

Everybody should work together closely to avoid scams online!

Of course it is easy, close your computer and go back to the good old business with phone and fax !
Forget the estimated imaginary profits, most of them end in a loss !

Do face to face business, as it all big companies do it first and after you know your supplier for shure, come back and use the new medias like Internet for quicker negotiations !
