manufacture
Post 1 of 15
Dear fellow traders
can someone please let me know how long it takes to make horse saddles? I have ordered and paid for approx. 5 saddles and some other equestrian products from an exporter in Pakistan. Since I have sent the money via TT I have only had one email in two weeks. Is this normal I would prefer to be kept updated. I am worried.[em11]

You haven't asked them about the delivery time before paying?[em9]
I'm sorry I know nothing in this field.
Why not just send them an email or call them?
Wish you good luck.[em20]

I have no idea how long it takes to make saddles either, but perhaps you are best to ask the supplier.

Once you have an answer then you can contact a second supplier to confirm that the first answer is correct.

It is generally best to do your research before you send money to any company.

Replying to [Bluey]:What checking did you do on this company before you sent them any payment? Is this a company you found on your own or was it reccommended to you by someone?

Actually the time taken to manufacture a saddle depends on a few factors.

1. Type of saddle.
2. If the saddle is customized for looks.
3. Is the saddle custom fit to the horse?

The last point is very relative, as all horses are not of the same stature and a generic will not ride as well on a larger horse than a smaller one both in comfort for the rider or the horse.

Now then, I'll take a generic western saddle takes about 2 weeks to manufacture. If you add free swinging fenders and rounded up skirts ect. your looking at four weeks. If you add tooled leather your talking six weeks.

This is not a question I have seen come up before but as I own two working cutters myself I have ordered custom saddles myself.[em15]

Thankyou for your reply, the saddles are generic, mostly dressage and one stock saddle, also various chaps.
I contacted the company via Alibaba, they have contact numbers and a website and used a pro forma invoice, the bank account was a company account so I figured that they sounded OK. Was I naive perhaps? This is the first time I have done this. I have sent 3 emails so far with only one reply which told me they would contact me with more details when they had finished production.
Thanks again for the advice, incidentally I have two exracehorses but I am buying a stock horse soon...thats if I have any money left!!![em13]

Hi Bluey.

Normally I would lock a topic after the best answer has been awarded.

In this case I will leave it open, as I think we will all be interested to hear the outcome after you call them. Please let us know.

In future, it may pay you to use a Letter of Credit for any orders overseas, as the Manufacturer will not be able to claim any money until he actually sends the goods.

thanks for your reply I will use letter of credit next time.
I have rang the company and the person I email answered the phone, he apoligised for not replying but had been out of town at a funeral.
He told me that the production was being finalised and would be 'off the premises on Monday' So I live in hope that everything will turn out OK I will let you know.[em13]

Great to hear that Bluey.
