Escrow service best way to detect scammers?
Post 1 of 10
I have recently been defrauded 2 times by one supplier from China and the other from the UK, these were both "Goldmember" and "Trustpass" members, so much for thinking that those titles make any difference? Since then I have been contacted by many suppliers and MOST of them refuse escrow service even though I tell them I will pay the full escrow fee, I see absolutely NO reason why a legit company would refuse this method of payment especailly since escrow services are there to protect BOTH buyer and seller? I am wondering now if most companies advertised on Alibaba are scammers?

Replying to [mikehende]:OMGSH. you had been scammed three times? I'm so sorry what had happend to you. Did you summarize why you got scammed three times? I think most of ppl here would like to do long term and mutual benefit business. Before T/T the money, you should check out the suppliers info. If you think they are unreliable, then p *, don't do biz with them is the best solution.

Good luck next time.

Replying to [Cooleyes]:I am still asking if you guys here think that once a potential supplier refuses a paid-for escrow service, if that supplier is fake?

Replying to [mikehende]: Yes, it seems obvious to me that Escrow is just too difficult for scammers to crack so if they refuse it, don't go near them

Another problem with this is that even legit companies are refusing this service and they are not giving a valid reason why even though I offer to pay the full escrow fees, what possible reason could they have?

I too have offered 100's of suppliers not only here but other sites to use escrow or alipay and I pay full fees. Most make the excuse they have not an account others have said yes no problems then send info for payment to W/U, I guess in the hope I will fall for their scam...

Dear all

I am starting my new business from uk, how do we pay companies in China? I have read the messages about the scams - I am glad I have read them it certainly opened my eyes. I have a chinese company who seems to be very keen to do business with us which is good but it is worrying me in that it might be a scam. They have already giving me a prototype quote similar to that in the UK????

Any advice anyone?

Thank you

[em14] Yes, I have almost been scammed by a Verified/Gold Member. I don't know why but they were not able to get the money from Western Union. I got suspicious that after paying and for more than a week, I received no response from my contact neither from the company itself even after repeated demands from me. I was able to hold the releasing of payment then later on cancel and got my money. If it's possible, maybe paying via Western Union, which is a sure thing for most companies, and telling Western Union to hold payment until goods are confirmed will be a viable alternative if companies refuses to use AliPay or other escrow services.

I would not sell to you through an escrow company unless it was one in the USA, one that I could verify. I am just checking out an escrow company in Russia and I do not trust them there are fake Escrow sites all over the web. good luck
