its simple the seller should have the brand owners approval before he sells the product to you, most fake sellers cannot submit this.

This is an ambiguous question !
You must specify who shall explain !

The buyer after getting the goods, from where ?
The seller who offers the goods from where ?

fake or counterfeit?
Someone need, someone produce.
Someone don't need, someone still produce.
The key is your own need.
If you need, ask.
If not, never ask.

There are many ways one can tell if a product is fake.
Attributes of the product is very important in order to know if a product is a fake.
First of all, quality of the product will defer. Research has to be done first on intended product that you want to purchase.
If a product is said to last for 12 months but instead last for 3 months, there is a possibility that the product is a fake. That is why a warranty or a gaurantee is always given by the seller or manufacturer of the product. The address and details of the manufacturer should also be given on the warranty card as you need to do your own research on the company.
Outlook of the product: Some products may look different on a catalogue or web page but is very much different when you purchase it.
Serial number of the product: Always check the serial numbers of your product with the manufacturer.
If the product is something you always buy, then cross check your new product with the old ones to spot and differences.
If a product (mobile phone) comes with different language settings, its a possibility that the product is a fake as it would be manufactured and set according to your country settings.
Always check the spelling of words on your product as fake products do not give importance to words printed or embossed on the product.
Always check all functions of the product as fake ones may miss out 1 or 2 functions. This is as their main intention is to only sell the product.
Language of the manuel of the products (Directions for usage) can also tell if the product is fake as the language will be different from what has been approved for your country.
Product attributes. (Rolex) You can always tell if a Rolex is fake as the settings of the "Seconds / Long arrow" will be different.
The movements of the "Seconds / Long arrow" in a fake Rolex will tick but an original will have smooth movement.

As such attributes, outlook, settings and usage of the product is important to determine if it is a fake or original.

Replying to [Admin]: Firstly, if U know the "ORIGINAL" brand & item product, then when U see a "copy" it is easy to tell because the item will be of lower quality, the material used is not "real if in leather & instead PVC material is replaced". Take for example MONT BLANC, the bags/luggage trolley U see around is definitely PVC fabric & not leather as proclaimed. PVC has come a long ways & it can look just like "real cowhide" if that is used but witha keen eye U can see it si NOT.

To check, U look for a "outlet" at any corner, U will see the "fabric" is lined with a base material, (leather do not ahve base fabric) & U see woven fabric to the top layer of VINYL struck together. If it is real COWHIDE it is jsut one layer top side to underside.

Again, dont be fooled by the "salesman/tout" taking a lighter & showing U how it does not burn. This is utter nonsense.

If U r specific in the product then I can tell U if it is real.

I do not understand in this world of advanced technology and information, where every thing you can find , whatsoever from information to knowhow on fingertip of computer and agencies .
Every information is available at the earliest of time.
But still after all these developments, we are still unsure of our activities.
We are not sure how and what we are dealing with.
The simple reason , is that we have technologically developed , but the development has not been made in our own moral upbringings.
The technology has been accepted but the utilisation has been made in the most immoral way.
With all the materialistic development , we did not improve our faithfulness and moral values.
Thus there is a big vacuum and gap of reliability and business.
We are doing business but we are not reliable.
I do not think there is any solution to this burning problem.
But the world goes on and we have to keep ourselves abreast .
Leave aside all these moral values as all others are doing,
to know the sanctity of the product:
1. Sample. 2. Material test certificate 3. Performance bond guarantee
4.Warranty from the manufacturers 5. 1 Yr. spare availability. 6.After sales services.
These are the foremost clauses that has to be deeply discussed with the sellers. If they accept all the above.
You have least chance of getting fake products.
