Hi!
Step by step....
1) Now You are ordering one item as trial one.
First look into forum link
http://resources.alibaba.com/topic/191756/Small_shipment_from_China_to_USA_.htm
IMHO, the best way is to send it via courier service (something like DHL, FedEx)...
Yes, it will be relatively expensive, but I do not see any other way to get sample as quicker as possible.
But, may be supplier will agree to pay courier fees to express a good will (but I have big doubts because of relatively large unit weight
![[em1]](http://img.alibaba.com/images/eng/style/icon/emoticons_smile.gif)
).
But, even if courier fees will be acceptable by You, before ordering the goods do not hesitate to talk to courier cervice in order to find out what kind of docs You'll be in need in order to perform import formalities at USA and to ensure safe receipt of the goods.
Then send the list of required docs to Your supplier asking to present them and then be sure that he will present them among of other docs.
2) When You'll come through this trial delivery and You'll found that goods are satisfactory for You then You may start to negotiate larger quantities.
In any case the best and cheapest way to deliver to USA will be shipment in containers. This will be long delivery. How much I do not know, but my suggestion is around 1,5-2 months (all go well).
First of all choose the nearest sea port to Your location which handle containers.
Then ask Your customer how much it will cost to deliver one container to this port (I think that chinese people may give You more competitive freight prices in compare if You'll try to get the same from shipping companies/liner agents).
There is a number of shipping lines working worldwide such as China Shipping, CMA, Maersk Line, MSC etc...
Before ordering a big quantity You should to find forwradering company in the port of discharge and customs brokers (more probably tha they will be two in one) and to discuss with them:
1) Forwarding and customs brokerage rates
2) List of docs You'll be in need to present for import formalities
3) Any requirements on how the docs to be prepared
etc...
Then You'll calculate the whole expences and will see whether this biz is profitable.
If so, then start negotiate with supplier contract.
And do not forget to include in contract all those docs which to be presented by the supplier in order to meet smooth import.
This is quite general scheme and, of course, You'll face with things which cannot be predicted (but it's better to)....
I 'm sure You'll solve them.
Good luck...
