Difference Between Entrepreneur and Businessperson
Post 1 of 7
An entrepreneur starts and builds companies, and may sell them off or release direct control so as to move on to build other businesses for similar purposes.
A businessperson starts and builds companies and continue to retain control and work to sustain profitability and growth.
Would you agree with the above definition? How do you see yourself as business owners and managers?

I think the range of the business person is more wider than enterpreneur.
We can call the person whose job related with the business as business person like sales man and of course also include the entrepreneur.
The only diffference between them is one have his own company and the other work for the company and also include the entrepreneur themself.

Dear Sir,
A businessman is broad general term, a person who has his occupation and livelihood engages himself in time, care and attention to a state of affair. The word derives from the root, word busy.
The business could be non-profitable, or mundane, or attending to a call of nature, like doing business in the toilet.
The entrepreneur is a specialized skillful person in the art of running a corporation, or a stock portfolio. The word originates from the French "entreprendre" , describes a person who organizes, manages and assumes the risks of a business, and it also distinguishes a successful businessman.
I should say an entrepreneur goes a level higher than the businessman, they may even be classified as venture capitalists, not only dealing with buying and selling of stocks and goods, but buying up corporations and integrate them into their strategic advantage in a global base.
Similarly, the occupation known as merchandiser, a person who specialized on specific commodity, or goods, and could identify them according to the specific needs of a demographic group of people. This separates the merchandiser from the merchant, who does wholesales buying and selling, without making market survey decision.

Replying to [smarco]: As reference to Entrepreneur.. who has ambition and risk taking spirit who build business with ambitious. They are two types of entrepreneurs.
1. Only plan and start up business but does not manage
2. Build and manage business like business person also take huge operational risk and financial risk.
As reference to Business Person: Only refer to who operate business and manage all aspect of business. such as small company who started buisness from scarch and has limited financial resources.human resources. they became manager of business. They are not much big differrences.in my opinion.

Quite agree with your observation. There's no big difference in as far as the ultimate objective of sustaining growth and profitability of a business venture is concerned. The key phrase is "subtle difference".
As Street Smart suggested the entrepreneur is more of an "artist", and so I'd see the business person/manager perhaps more of a "scientist" ?
