In my experience a wholesaler sells multiple lines, a distributer tends to act for many manufacturers and an agent acts on behalf of one manufacturer.

The difference between the three is based on their commitement in the market.
The Distributor and wholesaler are both commited to the sale and marketing of products and or services in the economic market, with a mere difference been that the distributor is usually affiliated to the company while the wholesaler trades with large capital which in some cases involves credit purchasing of the commodities.
An agent on the oher hand funtions as a marketer of such products who in some cases make the contac of both the first two in the marketing of such products.

2)Wholesaler keep the stock which he bill to the retailer as per his requirement in quantity.
3)Agent asks the customer to buy from the dealer and take his margin from the dealer after the deal is closed. He has no bindings for targets or warranty.

In my simplest explanation :

Wholesaler can sell to any retailer or supplier without binding agreement with the manufacturer meaning the wholesaler can still sell other brands.

Distributor has a binding agreement with the manufacturer and can only sell the specified product.

An agent is usually the middle man between the manufacturer and the wholesaler and/or distributor. An agent can get the supply either from a wholesaler or a distributor. An agent is a small version of a wholesaler.

Replying to [Admin]:Distributor: Firm or individual, particularly a wholesaler, who sells or delivers merchandise to customers, such as retail stores. Distributors act as intermediaries between manufacturers and retailers. They maintain a warehouse of merchandise, which is often purchased from many different manufacturers and then is sold (or distributed) among various retailers. By buying through a distributor, a retailer can have the advantage of one-stop shopping, rather than having to make individual stock purchases from each of the different manufacturers

Wholesaler: a merchant middleman who sells chiefly to retailers, other merchants, or industrial, institutional, and commercial users mainly for resale or business use

Agent: a person who is authorised to act on behalf of another (called the Principal) to create a legal relationship with a Third Party

A distributor may have a warehouse or store and stock products for retail and/or wholesale.
Wholesale means to sell large quantities, dozens or more to retailers.
An agent is more like a salesperson who is knowledgeable about the product and will help you place the order.

Distributor : It is depand on the products ;
A) If it is consumers products than distributor will manage to distribute to retailers as per his requirements.
B)If it is industrial products, at that time distributor will be directly in touch with the consumers for their needs.

Wholesalers: Do not need any understanding with consumers, generally they are in touch with small retailers and marketing various company's products at minimum profits to have bulk rotations.

Agent: It is a very important part of the company and are directly related with their principals and coustomers. Agent will be responsible to achive requirements of the company's target sales, finance to make timely payment and to maintain stock data base otherwise their products will be out of market. It is very dificult to avoid a agent by any multinational company as they are one of the pillers of company.
