Buying and selling through Alibaba.  What about us introducing a transactional platform like an escrow service?  Good or bad idea?

In my humble opinion, it would be a GREAT idea if alibaba did so.

Reason is that members would feel extremely comfortable to do transactions if the funds were moved through alibaba, as then both sides would have the confidence that neither side will get scammed.

[em1] Alibaba should become a full-transaction platform because it has a large number to Exporters and Importers listed online and also, it has helped us a lot in increasing our business in Indonesia. Another thing is, It provides a great deal of knowledge through providing a global experience and an extensive knowledge.

If Jack Ma ask the question "Now we got this Where do we go from here?"  The answer is apparent.  If not tomorrow with in 12 months time Alibaba has the capability to become the Ebay of international trade. Some problems are requried to be sorted out but nothing out of the extra-ordinary. From a purely technical point of view the IT infrastructure is capable of supporting transactions.

The "Some problems to sort are"

a. Minimum transaction value - You dont want deals of 5£ going through the system

b. Prequalification of buyers and sellers. Some of this is already being done but more through work needs to be done in association with a major credit agency like S&P or regional credit agencies.

c. Classification of commonly traded commodities.

d. Participation of a Major international bank to facilitate payment and trasaction.s

e. Escrow arrangements.

f. Arbitration and litigation procedures

g. Quality and inspection arrangments / options.

h. Transit insurance arrangements

i. Determination of transaction fees % of Sale. Too high and this will kill the project.

j. Both auction and fixed price presentations.

k. points for completed transactions and failed transactions and a public record of the transactions.

l. How to prevent private trading outside the "system"

The big negative is that many "Middle Men" who dont add any value will get killed off" .  But this is reality of life in the AGE of Information.

Wish you all a happy day.

How will you organisize this in international trade with big amounts ?

If you want establish this for small orders, like samples etc., you have a expended work, that nobody can pay if you want make a profit ! On the other hand you loose too much members, because all scammers and that is the overwhelming part of all discussions on the boards are not willing to accept this and leave the platform, or reject a escrow delivery like they do it today !

So leave Alibaba as it is, but find something that prevent scammers to open endless accounts, perhaps in a way that I have posted several times !

Very noble thought but ultimately very bad for Alibaba's image.

I estimate that 10% of escrow transactions result in disputes where one party or the other is very unhappy.

1,000 transactions per day yields 100 unhappy people per day.

Problem is Alibaba has open forums where we'd then have 100 new sons of Harjeet blasting Alibaba every day.

Apart from Alibaba's public reputation, you couldn't invent a better way to drive Uncle Harry crazy. [em2]

The day the Introduction Agency climbs into bed with its newly wedded couples is the day to close the public forums (which then puts Admin out of a job [em1]).

Replying to [Admin]: I think it would be a great idea for Alibaba to form a full-transaction platform. Mainly because everyone that vists the site and desires to do business does not know everything he or she really needs to know in order to conduct business internationally. I think that people will readily trust Alibaba performing the service more than it would some random person that sent a mass email soliciting business. It could also serve as a checks and balances system against fraud. With less fraus there would be more opportunity to get new business for actuall entrepenuers. [em19]

As I have been a Scammers Victim and have a list of 15+ Scammers that are listed on Alibaba, I would welcome such a move.

I have lost over $2000, to them, and I am sure i am not alone.

So lets get fair trade going here as it is a pity that no one can be trusted anymore.

Alibaba should implement a feedback system like ebay's for the suppliers.
