SAFE PAYMENTS

Typically, all payment methods are safe.  But only the buyer can define what is safe for their transaction and what assurances they require for their investment.  If you know your supplier and have a good relationship with them W/U, T/T, D/P, Escrow.com, and L/C are all safe.  If you do not know your supplier and have no relationship then I'd opt for the last two.  Escrow allows you to inspect the items before payment is released, and the L/C requires that specific douments will be presented before the release of any funds.  For companies doing smaller buys I suggest that fees would be better via escrow.com and for large PO's the L/C will be the best.  In any case you must not only research the company supplying you the goods but also the payment method.  For L/C their are different types that may be more beneficial than others per your company requirements and I suggest that you visit your bank and their International banking department to discuss all aspects of the L/C.

So when, individuals ask what is safe no one can really reply as they have no insight into anyone elses business nor their requirements for trust and security of funds.

Re: SAFE PAYMENTS
Replying to [Ranger]:

I've come across suppliers insisting on 30% - 50% cash deposit upon corfirmation of purchase order, and the balance payable by L/C. They require deposit 60 days in advance, my understanding is prior to starting production. This is first contact via email. I'd certainly conduct due diligence by checking out the factory prior to issuing PO.

In similar situation what would you do, in regard to deposit requirement? Is that a reasonable request? Or should I insist full payment only by L/C? Appreciate your thoughts on this. Am dealing with building materials manufacturer.

Great topic. As far as "safe payments" i would agree with you that no one should ever opt for a W/U or T/T payment unless they are real close to their trading partner and have done years of business with them before. I think you should have mentioned how important a Bank Guarantee in certain cases is for L/C payments.

Re: SAFE PAYMENTS
I am a bit disagree with ranger statement about "all payment methods are safe. But only the buyer can define...". but also agree with him about L/C.
The Escrow things you've mentioned is not a significant option in common, also may come saying other online payment such xxxpal, xxgold, etc.. so let's just skip it and zip it. online payment not always suit to every one's origin.

ranger..read the red words underlined. this is such one sided. unfair for the terms of trade which has two parties that must be considered. sellers also has the same problems. even bigger i guess. why? because there is added cost other than the goods value itself that must be staked. eg. shipping, taxes, insurances, and honor (as invaluable matters).

basically we need third party to be the middle man. it is just like playing soccer. one referee can manage the match between two opposite teams. the referee has rules which must be obeyed by them.[em1]
the same thing for trading and payments.

I don't say L/C is the best. and there are many kind of L/C that must be selected as needed to compile both parties consignment fundamentally. but as far as the world of trade goes, L/C is the most used.

we cannot differ big or small value of transaction in the term of safely payments. they are the same.

last but not least..it is a great thing ranger open this thread. so everyone knows what should be considered for their safe business and future development. i thank you for that.

I take it then you did not understand my meaning of your paraphrase.  It means that only the buyer can decide through their own due diligence what is the safest form of payment for paying any company they choose to do business with.  Personally, IM sure not going to have a seller tell me I can't use the payment method I want.  If they are not willing to accept my payment terms they dont have to, but then I dont have to buy from them either.  I'll just go down the line until someone does.   Also,  where are the added services to any group F shipping terms?  The export tax, that is on the seller and should have been figured into the per unit price by the seller.

"we cannot differ big or small value of transaction in the term of safely payments. they are the same."   Are you saying there is no difference in risk of a $1000.00 buy and a 1 million dollar buy?  If anyone does a 1million dollar T/T payment to a company they dont know, they need their head examined or have more money than they know what to do with.  Small companies make small buys and large companies larger buys each is entitled to the saftey in their respective transactions.  No suppliers bank is going to issue a BG for $1000.00 but then if its 1 million dollars if the suppliers bank will not issue a BG, that shows a lack of trust by the suppliers own bank.  Shouldn't there be a vehicle or a means for a small buyer to insure a safe transaction?, or would you say no?

Best regards,

Ranger

Magbaza can verify suppliers in China, your escrow is in USA, then how can it verify suppliers in other countries?

Is a company in foreign countries can do better than a company inside own country?

That is to say, is a foreigner be more familiar China than a Chinese????

Your a broken record,  this article was not about escrow it was about all payment methods and what each individual buyer feels safe with in regards to payment.   If you cant stay on the topic then start your own topic.  If your talking about verification of companies take it to comments on companies forum as that is where anything related to that will be transfer from this time forward.
