Replying to vxglobal,
Ingenious it may be, and to say luck is far fetched, and it does not take a Rocket Scientist to figure it out.
I can imagine the simplicity of it all, based on opportunity to strike into the hearts of people, entice them with greed, the chance to win a million dollars in the "pixelotto." At the same time gathering data of email addresses which he can sell to promotional companies, selective data such as the sites visited, the number of repeated visits, which countries the email originated.
Alibaba forum site is also a data mine, where there are number of prospectors digging into the data base to steal the data and call people who register with Alibaba forum. Companies dealing with investments use VoIP to call their prospects, names, phone numbers, position in the company and a profile of their business volume in US$, all from the Alibaba Registration forms.
I got a strong notion, this will wear out, as takers of the pixel point advertisers want to promote their product or website, but all this has a lot to do with the hit rates and the stickiness (the time of stay) on the site.
As to my observation, people log into this site in hope of winning a million dollars, which may never happen, God knows. The condition is the visitor must register and visit at least 10 sites. When the whole 1,000,000 pixels are filled, then the contest begins, and who is going to authenticate and be the judge as who is the winner?
Opportunity strikes and this guy made it at the right time, right place and the exact emotions of the audience, but as the advertisers got worn out, this fad will wear off, and eventually they may not see the returns for their $1 a pixel investment, and this will be the downward trend of our new founded millionare.
