soliciting information from suppliers
Post 1 of 6
As a middle man I qet a lot of requests from businessmen and entrepreneurs to obtain informations from suppliers on costs and production capacities of machines and production lines for all kinds of projects.Usually these informations are used by them to seek investment opportunities or make business plans..etc. and mostly don,t lead to actual purchases.I know this causes waste of time and effort to me but I cosider it as a part of the job.
How can I solicit such information from suppliers without actually giving the impression that I am wasting their time?

This problem really exists in business among suppliers and customers. And it makes purchase agency in baffle.I also have the same feeling as you.
But this problem cannot avoid. So please be in high spirit.Do whatever you can for your customers.though maybe sometimes they don't plan to purchase anything or just make research for the products, you could get trust from them. You also will feel happy that you are not wasting time.
Quite right sometimes suppliers will get angry for no order and say some scrannel to you.But please try to be sincere to them and let them know this is a potential client.I do like this, and most of suppliers be kind to me and give me information with patience.
Best wishes to you[em1]

If you contact the suppliers and let them think you are a buyer, this is not good and soon your name will be known to many suppliers as a guy who is messing about, the fact is the suppliers want to make money and get a order, maybe dont have the time to give you info on their company, well true info.

How can they know who you are, maybe feel you are anther supplier in China?

There is a way to abtain this information and make the supplier happy, we have done this type of work in the past, we used our export office in china to arrange, if you like our help contact me. [em19]

id say, tell them the truth (that you are a buyer's agent representing a group of buyers interested in purchasing from them and need X information)

make a list of THE MAIN questions your buyers ask and ask those few questions to the group of suppliers you have for contact....Present the results to your buyers, and see if any proceed to a purchase. Asking the main questions will hopefully stop you from doing too much running in between suppliers and buyers (and making the suppliers angry by wasting their time)
