Obviously, trading in brand name consumer electronics (Nokia mobiles, Acer laptops, TomTom GPS etc...) is a popular field, though most people who come to Alibaba looking for these items seem to only find the numerous scammers. What I am wondering is, where did you hear that it is possible to make good money from trading in brand name electronics? I am interested in the answers from any of those who come here hoping to trade in these kinds of items, whether you fell victim to a scam or managed to avoid them.

Did you ever find what you were looking for (no need to name suppliers of course), are you still trying, or did you give up thinking it was not as easy as you thought?
Award 100 MVPs ( What's this? )for the best answer.

[em19]I am new to Alibaba, but no to trading purposes or matters, I have work for several multinational companies and the rule number one : Identified with the supplier, was taking all the way trough any negotiation, in all cases and trough the years we have come across two diferent type of scammers, in many ways and this is before this wonderfull tool of internet comunication, and even before the fax machines, we use to comunicate by telephone or teletype, and many times we got really taken for a ride.
In many oportunities we were closing our electronic deals and sent the inspection teams to check our merchandise as was specified in the letter of credit. and we found out that the company was a set up,
It was an store front in Miami, close to free trade zone , near Miami Airport, and the merchandise was in a warehouse full of employees, running around putting together computers made in Taiwan that were
in this supposed to be manufactured in the United States. What you see in internet today has nothing to do with it , it depends only on the product manufacturer legal representation issue in any given way,
So as per the final aproach to this subject the other type of scammer it is no only the seller but also the product manufacturer wich in ways of manufacturing copies of the product with brand names, how can you feel that you have or you are a victim, when you know that the buying price of such product it is lower than the real cost of manufacturing with the right materials or components. So, as per my oppinion it is not the responsability of seller, if no if it is of the buyer, that in order to make a good profit , will go for this unfortunate way ,
of buying cheap imitations knowingly, or not. By rejecting the fakes and promoting the legal, will eventually come around one days, a factory id number or code on the fabric that could be scanned for genuity, and not ingenuity .Hope this is helpfull.

Ok, that is interesting and I agree with you [em19]. But there is obviously plenty of people who believe that it is possible to find original brand items at very low prices on the internet. With the internet it is easy enough to get into international trade without much experience, for good and bad. I did not know how things worked before I joined these forums either, though I had enough experience with scammers to recognise them anyway. I was wondering what it is that draws so many people into the electronics trade, and where they hear that it is good business? Maybe some reasons are obvious, but I'm still interested in hearing their views.

A lot of buyers that you see search the internet for band name items are people that get addited to E-bay, They all thinking with a very little money invest they can make quick and high profit on trading for these items. All they see is the price that sell on E-bay and think that they will be able to find it over sea for cheaper. Most of them would go into it with out much of a thought of get scam. Little do they know, scammer watching E-bay too.

If I have the items that they need all I have to do is go to E-bay and sell it for more profit then whole sell it to them as a power seller with 15-20% discount from the current market price. I could stii make enough profit to hire people to process order and shipping.
