Does anyone know what the differnce between PU and PVC handbags are? Is PU more of a realistic leather like material than PVC or is one softer than the other, does one look more high quality, is one higher priced than the other. Any info would really help. Thanks!

Polyvinyl chloride, (IUPAC Polychloroethene) commonly abbreviated PVC, is a widely-used plastic. In terms of revenue generated, it is one of the most valuable products of the chemical industry. Globally, over 50% of PVC manufactured is used in construction.

Replying to [mm11981]: PVC hand bags are hard plastic & PU (Poly Urethane) are softer than PVC. PU's feel is somewhat similar to Suede (artifical suede/ leather) or just like fabric where as PVC handbags are similar to ball pens shell made of hard plastic.
But if the handbags are made of SOFT PVC, which again is very softer form of pvc, in this case the feel is like you are touching a rubber glove.

I think PU looks more higher priced & sophisticated as it gives the feel of genuine leather. PVC may appear bit cheap if compared to PU hand bags.

I think PU is more high priced than PVC.

Usually PU is much more expensive than PVC, PU is softer and used commonly in clothing; handbag;also as synthetic leather for jackets and boots. PVC is hard and if it need to be softer, normally need to put plasticizer, which has a kind of chemical called Pthalates inside. PU is much more easy to be bonded, but PVC is not.

dear my friend :

PU synthetic leather is used in place of PVC artificial leather, and its price is higher than PVC artificial leather. From the chemical structure, it is closer to the fabric cortex, which do not have plasticizers to achieve the soft nature, so it  will not harden, be soft ,not become brittle, with rich colors at the same time, many of the advantages of patterns, fabrics cheaper price than cortex, Therefore, it welcome  by consumers

PU & PVC both are the coating done on fabric. then the handbags are being made.

PU coating is called artificial leather type appearance. Whereas PVC gives PP appearance.

There are different kind of coatings being done i.e. foam based or the chemical based. it depends on the add-on you need on the fabrics.

If you need more technical explaination you can contact me via TM, though I am a marketing person, but may be I can help you in this.

Hi I am in this side for many kinds of bags, and have experience on the fabric.

PU: foam coated, and elastic feature, soft.

PVC: plastic, hard, and not elastic.
