How the small businesses survive in face of the growth of giant trading companies?
Post 1 of 12
One often wonders how the small businesses survive in face of the growth of the onslought of the Multnationals and giant trading companies across the globe. This almost seems like a David and Goliath fight . A fight between inequals where might rules and the small gets crushed into nonexistence.

This does not always have to be the case. There are number of reasons why small businesses will survive and brave the high winds. Take the example of the Giant tree and tall grass. In high winds the trees will be blown down. The grass will bend and let the wind through and survive the storm.

The analogy works well. Just as the grass bends to the wind, you the small businessman needs to be adaptive to the changes in the marketplace. Knowing your customer and understading their needs, Adapting the products to suit their needs will win customers more than what the big boys can do. Accepting cheques and postal orders in addition to credit cards will bring you lots of customers who have given up on the big businesses. The spread of products reduces risk to business - ( Not all eggs in one basket) so if one product does not sell you can quickly move on to the next product. ) The same you can do for the markets. If one can not trade locally you can trade internationally and also different market segments.

Most of all one has to have a sharp eye, keen business sense and ESP to make you business win. The big ones will fall but you will survive a storm. The world is big enough for all to prosper - only if you let it do that.

Best of luck with your business and a happy day to every reader.

Small firms can move quicker, no need for decisions to up and down a line before something happens. If big firms start heamorraghing cash, it can take them months before it is noticed and remidial action is taken. Small firms can do it in days.

I also beleive that small firms can get most of the benefits of large corporations if they network and co-operate with each other. At least thats we like to do[em14]
