The factory stole my customer!
Post 1 of 195
I am a trading man. yesterday I went to a factory together with a new customer from South America to visit the product line.
In advance, I have iterated the case to the guys of the factory that they could not send the name cards to my customer.Of course, they promised crisply.(there is a International trade department in the plant) But when we got there yesterday, the fact drived from what they have promised. So surprise! My client is satisfied with the product very much.
I do not know how to deal with the fact. The point is this is also the first time that the customer and I took the meeting. So disappointed on the act of the factory. So surprised on the act of the factory.
Do you have the experience like me? How can I do now?

to [RobertChou]:Hi, well i truly sympathize with your reaction due to dishonest client, and most of all the mistrust from the fatory. Recently i had the same issue happened to my business, after building a good relationship with my client he decided to go directly to the factory and of course he received a $1 less per product deal than mine. But the moral of this whole story is that now i have sued the factory and made them pay back for not only taking a deal that i was in contract with my client, but the factory and i were in a contract agreement protecting my clients. Unfortunatelly they thought they would just get away with it. Unfortunatelly i fired back and now they are really screwed. My advice to you is please make sure there is a contract agreement between you and your factory protecting your hard investment and work, that way if they are willing to bend over a buck by all means then you will strech them out really good for doing that. Oh by the way the so called client of mine i completely turned cold down after trying his sorry excuses to come back to conduct business again, and unfortunatelly he had lost more than ever, now he cannot go to the factory anymore, since the factory is basically torned up ....and my turning away from him made him lose a multi million dollar deal, Oh well trying to save a dollar actually ended up losing him millions.

HI
I can give you 2 pointers;
1. NEVER let your customers know who is your source for your products!
You are in Trading. Your most important asset is where you source your products. In other words your business partners.
2. Business partners like this factory you do NOT NEED! You sould tell them that you are done with them! Even if they got the best product, leave them and find an other factory to do business with.
Hope this helps!

The thing here is that althoughit is wrong to do it, there are these people in the world.
What you need is to have Agreements in place before you take customers to the factory.
The main agreement you need is a Non-Circumvention, Non-Disclosure & Working Agreement. This agreement should also have a Breach Penalty in it in the event of Circumvention. This agreement should be done by Lawyer, and no just one off the Net.
Also if you are acting as an Agent for a factory, you should have contracts in place with them.
Hope this is helpful.

I believe, Robert, that now you should try to persuade yours customer to place the orders to you, not to the factory, and show him the advantages yours customer will get from you as the partner rather thank from factory. This factory is one among hundreds, so you should show yourself as single and the best.
Good luck.

Replying to [RobertChou]:hhehe...that things usually happen.
first , are you sure you have a good relationship with your customer?
if yes, i think your customer will trust you and do the business with you.second, do you trust the factory?do ask for a high commision from the factory. if the commision is reasonable..i think the factory will not do that.
business is not easy to do...

Replying to [linda123]: Im also a customer and I think that the best way to be trusted by your customer is to be honest. It is important to discuss your commision and other charges with your customer and both parties agreed. It is important to give reasonable commission and not trying to cheat your customer by charging too much. Afterall you both want to continue doing business for a long time/ your customer is also doing a reseach behind your back to make sure that you are not over charging him. If he satisfy according to his findings that you are honest, he will 100% stay with you forever.

My dear friend. There is nothing new in whatever you are saying. either you do not take the buyer to the factory or you do the direct down to 100% service. Openly work and charge them higher so that you are satisfied with what you are being paied for.Say right from the beggenning that if the buyer wants to go to the factory they will be charged more and make sure you get paied. otherwise let it be to take them to the factory. we are all human being and greedy for a little more.
One more thing you need to have a very good relations with your buyer so you have they trust.
Hope I have been of some help and consolution to you. I am sure there are many like you out there.
You just have to leave the factory and the buyer and go on. concentrate on what you do best and forget the bad memories.

The level of trust between your customer and you is very important. If you have established that trust, then it is very important how you maintain that trust. Your customer will then "follow" you whereever you go.
As for the supplier,it is best to have them agree on a "Letter of Non-Disclosure". This way, it will protect not only your interest but also your indirectly your customer/s.
