T/T Payment made to individuals account
Post 1 of 6
After many emails & IM chats with China supplier, I placed an order with them.

After doing a web search, they have many advertisements in several trade sites. Alibaba is not one of them. I have no idea why.

They have a website & the person I am conversing with uses email & IM chat.

They have asked for 50% T/T payment sent to their individual account.
Amount $1600

How does anyone else feel about this? Advice on what to do?
Ask more questions to supplier?

Thanks for any advice.

Replying to [JRJR]: Alibaba does not offer anymore free accounts for businesses in China so that may be the reason why they haven't registered.
About sending money to a personal account I would be careful especially for a first time. Ask them for their company account.
We use sometimes personal account in HK for taxes reasons (accounting charges are high here) but usually with clients we have worked long with.

They may well be a great supplier, however you should ask them for verifiable references.  Also find out their reasoning for wanting payment to a personal account.  You might even ask that a sample be sent to you first.  It is not uncommon that employee's of companies purchase products from companies they are associated with at an employee discount to sell to others.  Also please be aware that unless he is a liscenced or an authorized seller of the products you may have no recourse for defective items.  At the very least I would insist on an inspection of products being shipped by a 3rd party inspection service.  Better to spend a little on the front side than to be burned for 100% of the advance payment.

best regards,

T/T Payment to individuals account is risky job. L/c keep buyer & supplier in safe side.
