Free in/out is a shipment terms like cy/cy , cy/cfs , that it indicates shipper /consignee deal all the terminal charges by themselves not by shipping company . Generally , it shows FI/FO in the B/L.
By the way , it has lots of these kind of terms. such as : bulk / cfs /cy/door/fio/floating yard......

Replying to [Buddhu]:This is a shipping terms normally used by the carriers. especially on the NVOCC. U will see the terms used normally on the bills of landing as CY/CY which is a full liner terms. Where as this free in free out is used for the break bulk and NVOs for the terminal handling advantage. To make it very clear.

CY/CY- all cost of terminal handling at both POL and POD at liners account.

FIOS(free in freeout) these cost are born by the agents .
