Export to African country
Post 1 of 18
Dear Trade Manager or anybody out there,
Can anyone tell me how to do business in African country especially West Africa (in the country of Nigeria, Togo and Benin). Do we have to **** contract with the government? Is this a must or there are companies with whom we can deal directly?

I dont think you have to sign any contract with government to bring in any exports, however you need to check if what you want to bring in is not under the ban,Nigerrian Government recently banned some items.

Hello,
I think not all goods and services are allowed to be exported or imported through the private sector.
If you have a problem on sending goods to any african country, contact their Customs Officials and your problem will be solved.

Generally you should be very carefull - biggest scam - artists are coming from the countries you want to sell to. Sometimes banks -customs office and customers are working hand in hand with the intention to do you. Work only with irrevocable and confirmed LC's payable in your bank -not in Africa - only than you can be sure that you get your money. If someone is asking for a price and accepting your price without negotiations is the first sign that he will do you.

My frank advise is not to deal with them at all. I had undergone an expensive lesson just to verify the deal with Benin. I had gone to Brussels to verify the bank and took a flight to Benin to check the Buyer. Its all a scam ! In all i lost USD20K for legal action and flights and hotels not to mentioned opportunity loss ! NEVER DEAL WITH PEOPLE FROM BENIN !

If you want to loose money and get scammed sure go ahead and do business with these scammers from these regions; they practise in taking and delivering nothing.
Stay away from doing business with those regions nothing good will come from it.

We have a customer who supplies to several of those countries.
They have an agent there and all orders are approved by the goverment. So.... it's who ya know.
Also, know that those are very poor countries. And if somebody from there says they want to buy high priced items, they are probably a scammer.

dear frinds
i have in into export and import for several years i would just say that trading with african countries is big loss and foolishnes until unless you do not go under some contract with their governments but still their is no confidence because the governments are not so stable in arican continent but i would like to tell you that having business with south africa , egypt can be successfull
and never deal with nigeria togo and benin sorry to say that
still i would say you have to take all kind of precautionary steps.
