Replying to [Harjeet]:
Absolutely no use in International business whatsoever.
SWIFT is a communications system between banks world-wide.
Every bank has its own SWIFT Code, which is the bank's identification code.

The main value of Swift Codes to us business people is for international wire transfers of money.

Not every bank has a Swift Code, including many small community banks in USA. This prevents transfer of money direct to your supplier's bank account.

For example, I buy specialist stuff from a large firm in IL whose community bank does not have a Swift Code. This community bank uses JP Morgan Chase to transact wire transfers.

So, I wire the cash to JP Morgan (who does have a Swift Code). This larger bank then on-sends the money to the smaller bank. Just an extra step which takes extra time.
