Quoting from [hawaiianguy]:
Replying to [Madhur_Agarwal]: There's one major difference! It's that RightBrain/Wrong Brain kinda thing. You see, we Americans don't drive on the wrong side of the road!
There are many similarities between the British and the North Americans, namely the United States and Canada. However there are some minor differences, which is not life-threatening.
You think that the Americans are driving on the Right side? What the policeman sees is you are on the Left (wrong) side of the road from his view point. Anyway Agarwal motion is America and Europe, not British. The Europeans drive on the right lanes of a dual carriage way. Who is 'right' and 'wrong' there is no Right or Wrongs to do it, just as some people are left-handed and most of us are right-handed. However, the correct way to describe the right side should be Starboard, and left is Portside. Traditionally ships always dock by its portside, where the gangways and cranes are located. So as in a car, the passenger always alight at the portside, and that is where the British was right.
The British says the Americans a damned lazy in their spellings, like the word colour is spelt as color, and gauge became gage. The Americans say 'flash light' the British say 'torch light'. The American culture is more of a melting pot of various cultures from Europe, Asia, Arabia and Africa, whereas the British has the former Commonwealth States people residing there. They are more conservative in their culture, thinking and way of life.
The British are very resistant to change, while the counterpart accepts change much easily.
