Western Seller asks Western Union payment
Post 1 of 11
Taking goods by Credit card and by TT is most common method of payment. When say a US or UK seller refuses to take credit cards or Bank transfer and asks for Cash by Western Union and fails to provide references should one be wary? (more careful?)

Thanks for any advice

Sivaras,  do not do any deal via WU no matter what country its from.  I would suggest that you check out the new forum "Due Diligence"  There are several good articles there you should read before doing a business deal.  To all new members I reccomend you check out the forum.

Best regards,

Ranger

Replying to [Ranger]: Newbees look ?

But what means that ? Only for professionals !

Alibaba's Due Diligence Forum is for members who already know the basic drill and for professionals interested in sharing their experience.

It is the first sentence in the Introduction :

Western Union is the quickest way to get the payment, but only for small payment or urgent shipment. If first deal, better to pay by bank transfer from business bank account, more safe

Wilhelm, I followed your link an no where in the post does it state anything about being a professional business person.  In fact no where on any of the responses does it state the forum is for professionals.
"The Mission ...

To develop the world's best Due Diligence forum for small and mid-size exporters / importers."
Wilhelm are you refering to a different post or thread [em28]   Everything that I have read by Aussie talks in regards to those that are new to trade and the best approaches for succesfully completing a business deal.
Large importers/exporters should have due diligence down, but those just starting out or wanting to expand byeond being a small business may find it informative.  This is the gist of what I beleive Aussie was trying to convey.
Best regards
Ranger

"Due Diligence is not about learning the basics of trade. That's the stuff of our "Import-Export Basics" forum and the many other good forums here on Alibaba."

Ranger actually, this text from that Thread indicated in a vague sentence that this forum isn't for Newbie's, but for one's who already understand that basics.

Yea spot on Martin.

For example, it would be pretty fruitless trying to learn due diligence not knowing what TT, FOB and etc mean ... you get the picture ... just horse before the cart stuff.

But, do you know that Newbies are directly addressed, in talk about internet risk, in the first half of Due Diligence Step 1 - "Marketing and Business Planning", here ...

http://resources.alibaba.com/topic/18274/Marketing_and_Business_Planning.htm

Say mate, how's it going anyway. Turning all your beaut knowledge into money yet?

Actually Aussie if your intention was to say that "Due Diligence" isn't for new members then I would have to disagree with your statement.   Being that I started out as a buyer for a major corporation I would not have had a job very long if I didnt know how to qualify a business as a potential supplier before I ran back to my boss saying XYZ has a great price for our parts all we have to do is send 100% T/T in advance.  All the terms in the world are not going to keep someone from being scammed if they do not understand how to qualify their suppliers.  I think that to many times people are looking at "Newbies" as business owners.  How many buyers and purchasing agents are using the resources on Alibaba to enhance their understanding of doing business in a global market?

Let's put it in another way.  If your in college and wanting to pursue an occupation in global trade are you going to learn the accronyms first?  I think not.   Take any university anywhere in the world and look into the required courses for global economics degree and in the first 3 years you wont see anything pertaining to trade accronyms.   By all means check out Harvard in the US.  The University of Essex in England, or even your own University of Sydney for a bachelor degree in commerce and econmics.  More over most of these universities barely touch on anything to do with accronyms until you have completed your bachelors and entered upon a masters degree.   Due Diligence isn't just for experienced members and I guess in this case you and I agree to disagree.

Best regards,

Ranger

Well Wilhelm as you can see by my other post if it was his intention to say that "Due Diligence" wasn't for Newbies I misunderstood his intentions and do not agree with that opinion.  Once again thanks for your view point.  Now I understand your suprise for reccommending it.  Even still, although I may not agree with his opinion there still is a good wealth of information there for anyone.  By your statement are you saying that Aussie edited the post before I read it?

Best regards,

Ranger
