Normally in olden days, Japaneese used the natural dyes, extracted from plants. There are very bright colours with long standing qualities. They have used not only for clothing, they have used for paintings also.
I think the dyes used by the japaneese are harmless to the human health and environmental free.

That is why I hear many times for suppliers making black items for muslim countries saying that the dye used is Japanese dye. Which gives very good formal black color
