I am new and trying to learn as much as I can. Want to buy men's fashion clothes in China for resale or Ebay in USA. I see a lot of seller with minimum of 500 units or more. Starting out this could be expensive. Can anyone give me some good numbers as to what I will cost me in the end to purchase 500 - 1000 men suits. Such as broker fees, shipping costs, insurance, customs, etc. This would give me some idea what the total cost could run and whether I can make a profit.
Award 10 MVPs ( What's this? )for the best answer.

You got to watch out for the US Customs Anti-Dumping Quota for textiles.

Go to Website:  http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/import/textiles_and_quotas/

Do your homework before jumping into this business, else you may get burnt. Minimum Quantity Order is good for volume verses freight and handling cost. Maximize profit = low cost and high sales price.

Replying to [LONZ]: Do the research. Collect price quotes from the manufacturers you would like to deal with. Define your shipping costs relative to the amounts you want to import. Contact a customs broker to direct you in Custom's fee's and or Anti-dummping fee's and quota's. Do the weekly research of completed auctions or store sales for a period of no less than two months. Compare the average selling price plus listing and selling fee's to the total per piece price of importing the goods. Only then can you determine for yourself if the margin is acceptable for your efforts.

Replying to [LONZ]:Thank you everyone for taking the time to answer back. Can one of you proovide me with estimated dollars for what the cost would be for shipping 1000 suits from China to Galveston, TX. I assume most sellers would use shipping containers. How many weeks does it take for it go across the ocean. Some estimated cost in US dollars would give me a good idea what I can sell the items for and how much profit I can make.

Thanks!

Replying to [LONZ]:Much of your shipping cost variance is dependent on packaging. 1000 suits can be packaged using various methods which has an effect on the cubic volume of the total goods.

Yes shipping containers are used, 1000 suits would be a LCL (less than container load), and a freight forwarder can take care of the consolidation.

The time of transport varies greatly depending on the schedule of the freight fowarder. You would have to contact them for more information.

To get the goods to Galveston, TX you would probably enter the port of Houston. You can then use inland freight to send it Galveston or pick it up yourself from the port. (I've done this with personal items shipped in crates via ocean freight, it's not too bad)

I would contact the supplier and inquire on how they ship the goods and the packing involved. See if you can get dimensions and weight per xxx amount of suits. Then contact a freight fowarder (look in the phone book, there's many in Houston), give them the dimensions and request a quote. This will give you a little bit more information on the cost of shipping.

Additionally follow "Rangers" advice and contact a customs broker, they will guide you with Textile quotas and tarriffs.

Good luck

Replying to [LONZ]: It is my advise to start with minimum capital and minimum units. Do not go for 500 pcs on the first attempt. It's risky.
First contact any courier and ask him about the special flats rates for world wide. Ask for the corporate rates. Only corporate rate will be feasible. The individual rates will difficult to afford by the buyer.

Replying to [LONZ]: Some very good pointers here. Take it from another ebay seller who has learned the hard way. I must must emaphasize what others have mentioned do not buy a large amount such as 500.

When you find a supplier buy 5 or 10 of this product TEST the MARKET yourself, selling the products yourself on ebay will give you the most accurate reading of what you can sell these products for. If the initial sales go well buy 50 suits then 100 and so on increase your order sizes gradually do not run before you walk.

When you find a good supplier, speak to them about shipping etc. i have no doubt they would of already done many a transaction with customers all over the world.
