Hello, I just read your post and am concerned about a company we are considering doing business with in China. We are at the stage where payment is to be made. The amount is not large and I have received an invoice. Seller is a Gold Supplier. They have requested that since the amount is under 1000USD we must remit into the contact's personal account. She says her and her husband own the company. I don't feel comfortable with this....is this usual procedure?

Your article on the above was quite informative. However, my situation is a bit different. I`m SELLING to a Chinese company and they`ve agreed to paying 50% T/T down payment and 50% T/T before shipment. Sounds good right?
But the condition to these terms is that I come to China myself and sign the contract once all negotiations are over. Sounds reasonable I figure. Well, I was also told that I`d be required to entertain the buyers over drinks and KTV... at my expense. Lastly, they prefer that I come to China alone, or at least "not bring another Chinese person" to the final meetings.
What am I to make of this? The payment and terms are all agreeable but the "underworld" requests have me nervous. I`ve never been to China and I don`t speak the language. We`ve been negotiating this deal for almost a month now. It is worth almost half a million US dollars in sales.

Be careful with such kind of Chinese buyers, they are typical business scammers. They will ask you for more in name of other items as soon as you're in China. Check them out first ask them to offer their registered company number and other details, report it to local government authorities! Be careful !!!!!! Serious buyers never require you to treat sb else!!!
